I looked at the time as I excitedly dressed to attend my lecture session, packing extra clothes for my journey to the Shadow Forest. At my music lectures, It concerned me that Kaylee didn’t show up. I hoped everything was fine with her. I eagerly glide though my session, for I must get the answers I needed! With determination, I made my way through the Shadow Forest. As I ventured deeper, following the trail pathed by my heart, fighting the darkness like a beast! I came upon a little cottage covered in wild vines looking as though abandoned. I quietly said my prayers as I slowly rapped on the door. With a scared voice, I called “Miss Leila? It's me, your grandson Liam Harper! I have some questions for you about my father?!” After a long pause of silence, a fainted voice behind me suddenly spoke as I quickly spun around like a damsel in distress, “I have waited years for you to come! If your father could only see how beautiful and handsome you have grown, he would have been so proud of you!”
I looked frantically into the darkness, as there was no visual image of the voice! My heart plunged through my chest rapidly as chills ran up my spine! I opened my eyes widely as I noticed something moving in the bushes, it was coming towards me! I immediately fell on my butt as I stabilized my back firmly against the wooden door. Then I finally saw what the f**k it was, it was an image of an animal that looked like a wolf but as big as a black bear. “What the f**k!” “Don’t come any closer!” I shouted and quickly drew a knife from my shoe. But it still kept moving slowly towards me. Then the most unbelievable, magical thing happened right before my eyes. It was like I was in a twilight movie. I pinched myself hard to ensure I was not dreaming, it was too surreal to be true. The giant wolf suddenly shaped shifted into an old lady. She was nothing that I had ever seen before, she was as old as the hills, her pale naked, wrinkled body was distressing to my eyes as I tried not to stare. Her hunched back and short figure made it difficult for her to move any faster in her human form. Her deep green eyes seemed enlightened to see me as she slowly sat on a wooden structure below a Sycamore Tree. I was still sitting on the floor in horror and disbelief. I have heard many stories about shapeshifters, but I have never met one in person.
"Get off the floor Liam!” she commanded me with a strong voice. I shamely stood tall as I stared at her without a blink. “Come sit! Clearly, your mother did not have the guts to let you know who your father was!” “Let me tell you a little story” I was eager to hear, so I nervously sat, as many questions tingled in my mind. She tells the story as she reflects on a memory as though it happened just yesterday. (Memory Started)“Your father was as handsome as you are, he was selected Alpha over the pack by the Moon Goddess! Because he was strong, brave, and adventurous. One cold evening, he met your mother. She was lost in the forest as she couldn't trace her footsteps back home. He knew she was a vampire, but he decided to break all protocols and brought her home to stay for the night. The pack was furious as fear of her disclosing information of our whereabouts to her hive clouded our minds. But I could smell love from a distance as he was so gentle with her. After she returned home, they still continued to see each other in secret, until he fell head over heels in love with her. He decided to visit the Moon Goddess for permission to mate with a Vampire. To my surprise, permission was granted because this was something new, and they all wanted to see the outcome.” she suddenly paused as a tear trickled down her sorrowful face.
“One, faithful day, he came to me, and he said, Mother, she is carrying a child. I have to marry her. Deep down I wish I could have opened his eyes because, clearly, he was blindsided by love, but to make him happy, I played along and agreed to the marriage. That same very night the most treacherous, grievous thing happened! We were invaded by a hive of angry Vampires as the King was in search of his only daughter, who turned out to be your mother. They burned our homes to the ground, they killed our young kids, dashing them in the raging fires. They were ruthless! The pack fought back with all their might, but we were outnumbered. Your father had no choice but to come toe to toe with the king. They were both raging with anger, as he immediately rushed into a man with great skill, who had fought many wars like this before, for King Felix was as old as the floor we walked on, he had lived for centuries. I knew this fight was not going to be an easy one. At the end neither turned out victorious. Your father tore him to pieces, but he was also stabbed in the heart. He was too weak to remain in Werewolf form, so he shifted back to human as he bled uncontrollably. I tried to help, but before I knew it, he was gone!” she sobbed quietly. (Memory Ended)
“Does that mean I am half Vampire, half Werewolf?!’ I clarified, “The moon goddess will be happy to see the mystery fruit created, but she is too far away now, I guess she may never know.” she nodded as if agreeing with my question. “Who is the Moon Goddess?!” I asked. "She is something far from this world, she is the mother of the earth, the healer of all things, she is a spirit, that lived deep in the sss forest where we once lived. She only appears when its full moon!" "Many Werewolves will visit her with many requests, and she will grant them once the lord she served approves. Every ten years, she hosts a ceremony where the Alpha is selected. After your father died, we moved to the UK and then here. Before I made my departure, I visited the Moon Goddess to tell her I was leaving with your mother. I was heartbroken I lost my only son. Before I left, she gave me a recipe to make a perfume, to disguise my Werewolf scent, so I could have lived a normal life among both humans and vampires." “Yes! don’t worry, I will share it with you!” she answered my unasked question. As she removed her brown hand woven necklace with an aqua blue stone knotted in the center from around her neck and handed it to me.
“How did mom separate from you? I inquired, she then smiled at me “I have never seen your mother’s face or body before, but she sure knows how to snatch a man’s attention. After moving her to Ireland, a few days later your mother gave birth to you. We couldn’t wait to see what you were going to look like, but to our surprise, you looked like a human like me in my normal form. I was happy you even smelled like a human. Not even a month later, your mother came and said to me that she was seeing someone, and she wanted to move to a village deep in the forest where a lot of vampires reside, like a small hive. She was missing being around her own kind. I choose to understand, as she promised to bring you around to see me as often as possible, which she did for the first year but she never after. I was too afraid to visit her in the Cayenne Forest where she now lives as I was scared of the outcome. I would believe that there is where she raised you?” she asked. “Yeah, I would believe so, but they banished me because of my scent,” “I now live on my own, closer to humans and independent vampires.” The truth branded me, as knowing I'm a hybrid will result in more changes, but I felt great. I felt relieved and happy. “You should visit again, I have so many things to show you!?” she exclaimed as she leaned forward to hug me with her old naked body. I immediately returned home, sat on my porch and sipped some old wine as the thought of Kaylee continuously played in my mind.
