My blood and body froze at the sight in front of me. The rogue wolf had an ugly snarl on its face, its teeth bared forward in anger.
I felt my breathing grow ragged and my chest heaving.
I had never seen a rogue wolf before, but I’d heard of how cruel and brutal they could be. They treated the rest of werewolf kind like a threat, and us likewise, because of their mad and dangerous features.
What was a rogue wolf doing so close to the royal pack?
Rogue wolves always went in groups, just like a pack. If this one was here, then—
I drew in a sharp breath. Two other rogues pulled themselves out from behind the large trees, their fur rough and pitch black, just like the first one.
The angry growl from one of them had me flinching.
My shaking feet tried to take a slow step backward, but that was nearly impossible without ruffling the rogues.
My only option was to somehow run as fast as I had come here, but that was also almost impossible—because I had no idea how I got here in the first place.
I needed to take my chances. I couldn't just stand here and get devoured.
Without second-guessing the thought, I dashed into the forest with a speed I didn’t know I possessed, but it wasn’t long before I heard the loud growls and snarling of the rogues. I knew they weren’t too far behind me.
My blood pumped in my ears, sweat trickled down my back, and my muscles ached from the strenuous exercise of running.
If only I could mindlink—I would’ve gotten help already.
Hot and rushed breaths left my lips as I forced my body to move, my breaths coming out in loud pants.
My feet suddenly got stuck between woods, and before I could break my fall, I went tumbling down a large hill, my eyes wide in fear.
My body slammed hard against multiple surfaces until I landed on the rough ground with a loud thud.
Oh f**k!
I didn’t see the f*****g hill.
A loud, excruciating groan tore from my lips and my face scrunched up in pain.
It took me a moment to begin to feel all parts of my body, and my sight darkened from the magnitude of pain and soreness.
A loud growl forced my head to snap up.
No.
The rogues took their sweet, deliberate time sauntering down the hill toward me.
I let out helpless whimpers.
Oh no.
Please help, I cried out in my head weakly, unable to scream.
Fear latched onto my bones like a magnet.
Someone please help, I whimpered, hot sobs racking through my entire body.
I was scared—so scared.
I shut my eyes tightly when one of the rogues began to run towards me, his mouth wide open in a wild snarl.
I waited for the unbearable pain to come—to hear skin being torn apart and the wild growl of the rogue munching down on my flesh—but nothing came.
I forced my mind back to the present and slowly peeled my eyes open. A gasp left my body.
The rogue wolf was laying unmoving on the ground, a few feet away from me.
My head snapped up at the sound of whining to find the other two rogues still standing atop the hill, their eyes hesitant—and angry, very angry.
Another one took a headstart run toward me, and I dragged myself with my fingers against the leaves on the ground, my heart stopping.
This time, the most powerful and feral growl echoed through the entire forest, and I didn’t have to turn my neck to know whose presence had the rogues so frightened and fleeing in a rush.
The King's powerful aura swirled from behind me. I twisted my neck, my vision darkening.
Eris stood majestically behind me, his teeth bared forward and a storm raging in his eyes, and I knew it was because of the rogues.
He looked like a volcano ready to erupt.
In no time, the King’s magnificent wolf reformed back into his human form.
His bare form stood in front of my blurry eyes.
“Make sure they do not leave the pack grounds alive,” he barked commands to people I was unable to see.
He’s not going after the rogues?
The King stalked toward me with his jaw clenched and his shoulders rigid. He breathed so heavily through his nose, I could hear it.
He bent down to my height and looked down at me. I could feel the darkness swelling from inside of him and his simmering rage forcing my weak body into submission.
This felt exactly like the night I was almost executed at my old pack.
My breathing came out labored and short.
He roamed over my form with his stormy eyes, and a loud, menacing sound rolled from within his chest.
“What do I do with you?” His voice came out rough and etched in bottled fury.
The sound of his voice so close to me had me recalling what I heard him say not too long ago.
If I had enough strength, I would’ve pushed myself away from him.
I didn’t want to be near him.
I knew he had been lying—but to hear him say it was different.
The King leaned forward until he placed his head against mine, his annoying breath tingling against my skin.
I hated the shiver that ran down my spine even in this state, and most of all, I hated that having him this close somehow made breathing easier.
“Get away from me,” I bit out through gritted teeth.
The King's brows furrowed, and then his eyes darkened.
He gently placed his hands against my cheek—so softly—and then he lifted my neck up from against the tree trunk. I let out a loud, painful groan, and whimpers left my lips.
The King's nose flared up, and I got even more upset, hurt pushing through my veins.
If he was that angry and repulsed, why was he here?
I weakly tried to push away from him, my body protesting in pain—but I wasn’t having it.
The King tried hard to hold on to me without hurting or touching my injuries.
“What are you doing?” His breath felt hot on my skin.
“Let me go,” I whimpered.
“I need to get you out of here,” he said, his tone dark.
“Let me go,” I cried out, hating how my body was reacting towards this lying man.
I hated it all, and I wanted it to stop.
The King's brows furrowed even harder, and my face scrunched up in pain. I wanted to leave.
The King was having none of it.
“Stop moving this instant,” he grated out, his scrutinizing eyes on me.
“You’re losing blood. You don’t heal like the rest of us,” he let out a low growl.
My heart pinched at his words.
I already knew that. My lips trembled hard and I bit into it. I already knew how different I was from the rest of them.
The Alpha King’s forehead pinched tight, and his eyes looked confused at the sight of my tears.
“W-What happened? I—I didn’t…” The mighty King looked at a loss for what to say.
