“You smell like alcohol,” Aster pointed out as Ken secured their belongings to her horse. There were worse things to smell like, she thought. In the bright morning light, she squinted at the old woman. “Work hard, play hard.” “Bullshit. Why would you hide it? If you’re gonna take us into danger, I need to know who the hell you are.” Ken put up both of her hands in surrender. “I wasn’t hiding. I just didn’t want to share. Look, it helps me sleep. I never drink during the day, and I don’t get the shakes or whatever.” Yet. “You don’t have anything to worry about. I’m not some boozehound.” Yuuki put up with it despite her own issues with addictive substances. She wouldn’t if she really thought Ken was turning into an alcoholic.
