Her grasp tightened on the stem of her glass and she tried to look away, to gaze in any direction that was not directly at the older woman standing rigid before her, the waves of dark hair falling down the pale, exposed flesh of her back, watching her as she held court of a different sort, a different nature, yet one which, like that of her homeland, no doubt conceded that she was the center of it.
