After the CEO dropped her, he waited for her till she reached near to her home. On reaching the gate, she turned around only to find him, lazily waiting with both hands tucked inside his pant pockets, one leg resting on the car’s door.
Sarah’s heart skipped a beat seeing him. She found him jaw-droppingly handsome at that moment. Feeling her stare, he raised his head to look in her direction. Seeing that, Sarah waved him goodbye and entered her apartment.
Upon entering her apartment, Sarah realized that she still didn’t know his name. By the time, she came out, she saw the car leaving the place. Sarah shrugged, decided to drop the idea to chase the car, just to know his name.
Seeing that egotistical bastard leave, Sarah’s heart winced in pain. She couldn’t describe the feeling, even to herself, but she knows one thing for sure that arrogant man gave her a sense of security.
Sarah’s house is in a town called Phoenix which is slightly towards the outskirts of the city but it’s a well-known area in S city. Sarah belonged to a family that could be considered as the upper middle-class. With her father’s bad health, things were not sailing as smoothly as before. Sarah always worked in her free time so that her mother won’t complain, of her leeching off the family’s riches.
She turned her gaze away from where that conceited man had dropped her off. On reaching home, she took out her mobile from her bag. She saw that she had missed a few calls from her siblings.
After updating her brothers and changing into her nightdress, she waited for sleep to take over. However, she couldn’t restrain herself from thinking about him.
How her heart skipped a beat when he raised his eyes towards her, how she felt goosebumps all over when he pulled her towards him. Lying flat on her bed, Sarah couldn’t help feel giddy. Taking the pillow from her side, she buried her face onto it and said in a muffled voice, “stop it!”
Sarah didn’t know when she fell asleep but even her last thought was about that magnificent, blue-eyed, rugged faced CEO.
Sarah found herself running. She couldn’t identify the place but it was a beautiful one. Chris was dressed in a black overcoat with a crimson scarf. In that attire, he was strikingly gorgeous and she couldn’t tear her eyes away from him.
“Stop running! Hold my hand,” he said with a serious look. Sarah turned around making her skirt flutter.
“Come on! I am not a kid.” "Yeah right! That’s why your whole body is covered in bruises due to falling,” came his instant reply.
Suddenly, the whole sky became dark, one could hear a malicious sound of laughter. He pulled her behind him and said, “Whatever happens, don’t leave me. Do you get it?”
Sarah looked terrified and was trembling in fear. She was not able to focus on what he was saying.
Sensing Sarah’s fear, Chris turned and pulled her in his arms and tried to soothe her fears. He tried to make her focus. He caressed her face and looked at her with deep love reflecting in his eyes and said, “Look at me, Sarah! Don’t be scared. I am here. They won’t hurt you! I promise.”
His face showed how determined he was to erase all those who scared his girl. He gave a deathly glare to the two people who were walking towards them.
A woman, wearing a black velvet gown with her hair tied in a bun, came near to them along with a man who had a sinister smile plastered on his face. Even though she carried an air of royalty, she reeked evil.
“Hand her over! She is my fiancé!” the man claimed.
The woman snorted and said, “She is my dearest step-daughter. You have no reason to interfere. I have decided to get her married to Seth. He is the second son of the Beaurepaire family.”
Before she could continue, “Alyce! You have no right to decide. I love Chris and I belong to him alone.”
Hearing Sarah’s confession, Chris looked at her lovingly, only he knew how he wanted to grab her and kiss her thoroughly to ease her fears. Her hands were clutching his coat so hard that he could feel all her emotions.
Seth shrieked in a thunderous voice, “You are his! You damn sl*t! Your mother has sold you to our family and I was kind enough to make you mine instead of allowing you to serve as our family pet!”
Hearing him, Chris was boiling in anger. Though the whole face had no trace of emotion, however, his eyes were so deadly that Seth swallowed the rest of his speech. Even Alyce couldn’t find her voice.
Chris said in a menacing sound, “Dare you! Touch her, I will wipe out your whole clan even before you can realize what happened. Don’t mess with me. Leave before I lose control.”
Seeing his murderous eyes, both Alyce and Seth, shuddered in fear.
Ignoring his warning, Alyce said, “Listen, Sarah, leave this pretty boy and become part of the Beaurepaire family,” and then gave a pointing look to Chris and continued, “he will dump you sooner or later and then no one will want you. Right now, at least you can serve the family.”
“I don’t care about the Beaurepaire family, I want only Chris and him alone. What kind of mother are you? Selling your daughter! My father always trusted you and gave you all that you asked for. I loved you but today, you broke all our trust. Even you have all the treasures of the Windsor clan.”
“Wait!” Chris looked at her shocked and turned to ask her, “You belong to the Windsor family?”
Sarah looked at him surprised and answered, “Yes. I am the only daughter of Isabella and Edward Windsor.”
“How? Who is Rose? Your surname is Claudette?”
Dismissing his question, Sarah jokingly said, “Why are you so shocked?”
“Answer Me!” Chris asked her hastily.
“Okay! My given name is Sarah Claudette Windsor. Rose is my step-sister, Alyce’s daughter.”
Chris closed his eyes and let out a heavy breath.
He moved towards Alyce and spoke in a spine-chillingly scary voice, “Then, why did Rose come to the Edgar family claiming to be a Windsor family daughter. . . She said that she was the only daughter in the family.”
Sarah murmured but it could be heard to all standing there, “How’s that possible?”
Chris looked like the Hades from hell and asked Sarah to explain!
His behavior confused her, still, Sarah obeyed him and honestly replied, “I was two years old when my mother died. Alyce is from my mother’s side, a cousin who was chosen to take care of me and my twin brother, Samuel Lennon Windsor. Alyce was a widower with a daughter, Rose Alva. Later, dad remarried her as she was taking care of us. So Alyce and Rose opted to change their surnames to Windsor. And you have met my step-brother, Leo Smith Windsor, who is five years younger to me.”
Chris, looking like a grim reaper, walked towards Alyce and murmured, which scared the hell out of Alyce, “So that’s the story. In short, Rose lied! You lied! She was mine from the beginning. How dare you set me up with a fake princess of the Windsor family when Sarah was the real one.”
Frightened, Alyce said, “Who are you to ask? She is my responsibility. I will choose, I am her mother. . . ”
Before she could continue, Chris clasped her throat, lifting her from the ground, and slowly said, “Who am I?”
Alyce tried to free herself but Chris tightened his grip and continued like he was the devil himself, “I am Chris Daniels Edgar, Crown Prince of . . .”
A shrieking voice disrupted, Chris looked back only to find Sarah in the arms of Seth.
“You!” Chris threw Alyce to the ground.
Chris moved towards Seth. Seth was more focused on Sarah and kept talking in her ears, “You b*t*h! How dare you refuse me. After I take care of this lowly fellow. I will make you beg me to forgive you. I will. . .”
Seeing Seth close to Sarah made Chris see only red.
“Leave her. I had warned you not to touch her,” Chris bellowed at Seth as he hurled him away from Sarah. Chris picked Sarah and asked her in a doting voice, “are you okay? Did he hurt you?” Sarah could only shake her head and tried to find her voice, “Chr. . .”
Sarah woke up in a panic. She could hear her heartbeat drumming out of control and was out of breath. She could not make out whether it was a dream or reality. It felt so real. She could still feel the grip. Trying to find her breath, she saw the clock.
As soon as she saw the clock, she shrieked in panic and started running around like a headless chicken. “Oh, sh*t! I am late. I am late!”
“Dragon lady will put my head on the grill.”
She muttered along while trying to get to her office.
Sarah checked her watch while waiting for the lift, “Cr*p! I am late.”
She hastily entered the office. “Hello! Mr. Guard,” she smiled and greeted him.
“You are late. Dragon lady is there, making the rounds. Hope you have a good day,” he said laughing as Sarah skipped past him. Sarah made a face at him while she opened the glass door of her office.
Sarah tried to enter her cabin without having to meet the dragon lady. But luck was not on her side, “Ms. Brown! Come to my office,” came a voice behind her.
Sarah turned to find Ms. Davis, looking at her furiously. Keeping a straight face, Sarah replied, “Sure.”
The whole office stared at Sarah as Ms. Davis walked towards her office.
Kathy gestured as if Sarah’s head would be chopped and mouthed, “Best wishes.” *****
