Encuentro (Meet)

Ruby

It’s Sunday morning and Monse and I are going dress shopping for our graduation ceremony. I got a bit of money for my birthday. It should be enough to buy a dress and shoes. I get out of the shower and get ready. I put on some skinny jeans and a white bodysuit with some white converse. I left my hair down today, just to see how my dress would look. Wearing only mascara and lip gloss.

"Mama ya me voy" (mom I'm leaving)

"Se van con cuidado" (you guys be careful out there) mom said.

We have little boutiques around the pueblo nothing to fancy. All the dresses are brought from the city, which makes it nice that we don't have to travel so far. I started heading to Monses house. Good thing everything is in walking distance. When I get to Monse's she's already waiting for me outside.

"Monse, are you ready?"

"Si, lets go! Hopefully, we can find something decent to wear" Monse says.

We went into the first boutique. Walked around and tried on a few dresses, but didn't find anything we liked. We headed to the next one. They had some beautiful dresses. I found a red gown, with spaghetti straps, that showed a little cleavage and a low back with a high slit. The dress is beautiful, and it fits me perfectly as it was made for me. Monse also finds a tight black lace dress, with spaghetti straps that fits her body very well.

"Wow! Ruby, you look amazing in that dress" Monse says.

"So, do you Monse, black is decently your color"

"We are going to be the hottest girls at graduation" Monse said.

We both started laughing. All of a sudden, we just heard a voice in the back round

"De eso no hay duda" (without a doubt") Carlos said.

Both Monse and I turned around laughing, thinking it was Sebastian. My mouth flew open at the sight of the man in-front of us. He looked familiar, he was tall, handsome, sexy, very muscular. His body was to die for, he had a nicely trimmed beard, wearing a black T-shirt and some ripped jeans and a baseball cap. You could literally see his six-pack through the shirt. Something about those eyes that draws you in. He was just staring right at me, my mind went blank and hoping I didn't have a dumb expression on my face.

"Gracias" Monse said

I was still in shock at the goddess of a man standing in front of me. I didn't say anything.

"Hola Monse! Hola Ruby! It's great to run into you guys again. It's been a long time, I almost didn't recognize you guys", Carlos said.

"Carlos? Is that you?" Monse asked.

"Sí! soy yo" (yes, it's me) Carlos said.

"Ruby, ya cierra la boca, y di algo" (Ruby, close your mouth and say something) Monse said, laughing.

"Hola! Monse ya vamonos" is all I managed to say.

"Why so fast? We should grab a coffee to catch up" Carlos said.

"Sorry, we can't, have to finish shopping". I was so nervous I didn't know what else to say.

All I could think of was my parents and if they found out Carlos was in town and that we ran into him. They would totally flip. Something about him made me so uneasy. But I could help but feel excited about finally getting to see him. He made my insides feel a certain way that I had never felt before. We go back to the dressing room and change back to our regular clothes.

"Ruby, you look even more beautiful with regular clothes". Carlos said

"Gracias, pero ya nos tenemos que ir, un placer volverte a ver"

We head to the register to pay for our dresses.

"Hasta pronto Nina hermosa" Carlos said.

We grab our stuff and quickly leave, hoping he doesn't follow us. My heart was pounding so hard I felt like I was about to pass out.

"Wow Ruby, que hombre tan mas guapo" (Wow Ruby, that man is so handsome) Ruby said

"Si muy guapo y muy peligroso" (Yeah very hot, but also very dangerous)

"The girls in school weren't lying, man. If I weren't with Sebastian!" Monse said, and we both started laughing.

"Can't tell anyone we saw him Monse, our parents would freak out."

"It was him Ruby" Monse yells.

"It was him what?"

"The gift is from Carlos" Monse said.

"Estas loca, there is no way. We would have seen him go into the house"

"It was him! Didn't you hear when he called you Nina hermosa. Isn't that what the card said?" Monse said.

"Yes! But it doesn't mean it was him."

"Ruby, he likes you" Monse said

I started laughing so hard.

"Now that's funny, he doesn't even know me, well he does, but we haven't seen him in such a long time. There is no way it was him. He has plenty of women prettier than me, that are dying to be with him, I'm sure. He can have his choice of anyone of them, Monse."

"Maybe, but it's still a possibility."

"We were just friends, Monse. He never told me he liked me, and what difference does it make now? We are from two different worlds. He will be gone in a few days, and we won't see him again. Besides, we will be at the university if he does come back."

"You're right, maybe I'm reading too much into it." Monse said

"Let's go get our shoes and have some lunch"

We find the perfect shoes that go with our dresses. We headed to a taco stand next to the shoe place. My mind was still replaying what just happened and what Monse said. There was still a possibility it was from Carlos. My head was like get it together Ruby! No, way a man like that would even dare give you the time of day. He could seriously have any woman he wanted.
