The nurse had linked me to come back in. Maddison was asking after me. Her eyes struggled to focus on me at first as I entered her room. I could sense her happiness in me being there, and relief. I hoped she still wanted to be with me. All I could do was apologise and spend the rest of my life making it up to her.
I sat by her side and told her how much I loved her and how sorry I was for not getting rid of Dominique sooner. I promised to never let harm come to her, Ben or our baby. I immediately felt her confusion. She didn't know she was pregnant, or how happy she had made me. I sat talking, but she wasn't listening to me. She was absorbing the news.
