Opal's First Moon

Chapter 2

After resting for 10 minutes I begin the last of the prep work for dinner. I pull the steaks out of the fridge and place them on the counter to allow plenty of time to come to room temperature. I go to the enclosed BBQ area through the back door, the windows are tinted a dark color so no one can see inside, there is a vent with a fan at the top that pulls the smoke outside. After I start the grills I look out the dark windows, the sun is shining though it looks cold which is understandable being January and still Winter. Kids are playing outside, while others talk and watch. Yet I'm trapped inside, and no one knows I even exist in this pack except my family.

I slowly walk back inside to start the pasta and baked potatoes since those take the longest time cooking. I finish prepping the salads so all that is left for those is the dressings. I stir the sauce when

I hear a car screech to a stop outside the window. I walk over and take a peek to see two men getting out, "Great they have already started to arrive. I wonder who they are?" I said to myself. " Alpha Jack, Beta Julius welcome to our home." I could hear my father introducing them to everyone, and speaking load enough so I knew some of our guest have arrived.

It wasn't long after that four more big trucks arrived, which I would assume are the remainder of the guest. They all make their way inside to the great room when suddenly the kitchen door swings open, and in walk my two sisters. "I don't know why but mom and dad want you to go get changed and have us help you look special" Athena talked with disgust in her voice. They pulled me upstairs and hurried me to change into a beautiful floor length blue gown. Ashlynn worked on my hair putting it into an up-do with a few pieces hanging down. Athena did light natural tones for makeup, at least she didn't make me look like a clown.

After they do a double take of their work Athena and Ashlynn rush back downstairs. When I reach the top of the stairs I hear my father introducing everyone to our family. Thinking to myself about how I'm supposed to cook and not ruin this dress is beyond me. Suddenly I realize no one is talking as everyone stares at me. "Andrew who is this I thought it was just us and your family!!" His aura was strong and I could tell he was an alpha. "Alpha Jack this is my daughter Opal" though my father got a strange look from him. "Opal these are our guest Alphas Jack, Steven, Joshua, Samuel, and Damon. These are their betas." I bow my head to each of them out of respect, but notice Alpha Damon does not take his eyes off me.

"If you will excuse me father, I should go finish preparing dinner for everyone." I quickly walk into the kitchen when my mother and father follow me. "Opal, you better be on your best behavior while our guest are here. We are discussing forming an alliance and we need their support. Do you understand?" I lowered my head "Yes, father I understand." Before they leave my mother quietly tells me "If you mess anything up you will be gone for good. Your room wont be yours anymore and you will become a rouge." Looking down I slightly nod and give my reply.

I grab an apron to cover the dress in hopes I don't ruin it and go cook the steaks, while those are cooking I finish the pasta, and salads and take them to the dining hall. I take the steaks off the grill and let them rest while I finish setting the table. I go back to the kitchen and make sure everything is ready before I go tell them dinner is ready. "She looks so much like the girl in the photo from the royal pack, of course much older. And what kind of family would make their daughter do all the food preparations instead of a couple omegas?" I peek out the corner of the window to see Alpha Damon his beta James, and Alpha Steven talking." You are right Damon, but before we inform the king and queen we must be more certain. They have been searching for almost 18 years for the princess. How would she end up here if it is her?" Alpha Steven is calm while speaking.

I walk out of the kitchen to the great room, "dinner is ready in the dining hall, if you all will please follow me." I escort our guest and my family to the hall for dinner, then turn to leave. "Opal" I heard Damon call me, "Why are you leaving, aren't you going to eat as well?" "I..." but before I could finish my mother comments " Opal, does not like eating with a bunch of people, she hardly joins us for meals" Damon turns his attention toward me, "Opal, will you please do me the honor of sitting by me and eating with us?" I look over to my parents who could kill me with their looks if possible. "Opal!! Alpha Damon asked you a question, now be a good girl and answer him" I turned back to Alpha Damon, "I would be delighted to sit by you and eat some dinner. Thank you for asking alpha."

Suddenly i heard my sister's voice in my head *don't eat to much, you don't want to embarrass yourself in front of all the alphas. Plus, you need to watch your figure*

After everyone has filled their plates I took about a quarter of a steak, a small amount of pasta, and half a potato. I sit and eat quietly while everyone around me talks to each other. "Alpha Andrew, would you mind if after dinner I take your daughter to the garden and walk?" "Which daughter are you referring to Alpha Damon? Ashlynn and Athena both love the garden at night." was my father's reply. "I was hoping to take Opal to the garden, I would like to get to know this mysterious daughter of yours". Suddenly my mother chimed in "Opal is not allowed outside the house" Damon gave her an odd look, "What I mean is she has never been outside her entire life, she prefers to stay inside and read or draw."

*If he asks you you better tell him NO!! Do you understand me Opal? You are not to leave this house!!!* my mother said through the mind link

"May I be excused? I am feeling awfully tired, and I have much to do." I asked my parents. "Very well Opal go get some rest and finish what you need to". "Thank you father, I will." I make my way upstairs to change out of this dress and back into my worn out clothes, and sneak down the service tunnel to my makeshift room. It is even colder in here than normal, I grab an old blanket that has many holes and wrap it around myself before laying on the ground. No matter how I lay I always end up with a rock in my side, I wish I could have more blankets to place under me.

I finally start to drift off to sleep when outside my room window even though its more like a cell than a room I see two people stop. "Something is off here, I followed her upstairs after a bit of time but she was not there. All the rooms of the floor are full and there are only enough rooms on the next floor for her parents and siblings, plus her father's office." "Thank you Julius, Get in touch with Prince Luca, let him know their is something off at the Midnight Ocean pack."

"How can such a beautiful gem disappear into nothing, I know something is up I'll talk with you Opal and try to find it out." He is talking to himself, I wonder why Alpha Damon is paying attention to me? "Julius, I am going for a run Max is getting restless" suddenly out my window stands a huge black wolf. His wolf is bigger than any of the wolves from our pack that I've seen through the tinted glass. I couldn't get what he said out of my head, who is Prince Luca? Why did he call me a gem? I wish I knew what was going on, I keep getting this bad feeling something is going to happen. I slowly drift off to sleep, wondering what tomorrow will bring.
