Chapter Sixteen Farewells I flew back to Boulder. I’d made arrangements to move out of my apartment and have my stuff shipped to Carmen’s house. There wasn’t much since the furniture wouldn’t be necessary, but I wanted my bikes, guitars, books, and music. I felt like a college student stuffing everything I owned into a minivan. I worked with my ex-wife and her lawyers to adjust the conditions of joint custody for our son Jake. He would alternate two weeks at a time, then the custodial parent would fly with him to the other. It sounded good in theory, but I was pretty sure my ex-wife would invent emergencies so I did most of the flying. Carmen assured me she wouldn’t let that happen. I sensed fireworks on the horizon when they met. I was away for seventeen days and missed Carmen terribly,
