A Blood Driven Alpha

Lord Kaelen Valkyrie Vaelen'dra I sipped slowly on the wine as soft classical music played in the background. I twirled the cup between my fingers, humming along to the song. I took another sip, letting the wine roll around my mouth before gulping it down in one go, then dropped the cup. I didn’t know what was taking Adrian so long, but I believed he would be here soon. A smirk touched my lips as the door pushed open, revealing him as he strutted inside. “Kaelen,” he acknowledged, his head slightly inclined. I took my lower lip between my teeth, studying his expression closely. I already knew what he wanted to say. The bastard couldn’t even hold out after a little torture. Coward. “He’s dead,” I said, beating him to it. Adrian didn’t look surprised. He knew I already knew. That’s what decades of being my most trusted man does. He nodded. “Yes.” I smirked. The bastard was all talk. “Send his body to his family,” I said, my voice devoid of warmth. Just plain cold. “Okay,” he replied simply, but he didn’t move from his spot. He had more to say. I stretched out my hand, picking up the tobacco pipe on my desk. This time, he moved. His hand rummaged briefly in his pocket before he brought out a lighter. He leaned slightly forward to light it. I took a long drag, puffing out the smoke. “Go on,” I ordered, not having the patience to beat around the bush. A flicker of surprise crossed his face briefly. “There is no response from Aaron yet.” I took another drag from the pipe. “The guesthouse?” “He hasn’t been seen around for a long time. It’s been a while since he showed up.” I frowned. Aaron hadn’t shown up at his favorite place? “For how long?” I asked. Adrian shifted hesitantly on his feet. “Since that night.” I went still instantly. That was three moons ago. My frown deepened. I had assumed he was still sulking around after he stopped showing up at the pack grounds. But Aaron not going to his favorite spot for months? That wasn’t normal. For someone who loved messing around with women, he wouldn’t survive staying away from the guesthouse. Where could that moron be? I hadn’t given his absence much thought before, but now it was glaringly obvious. Aaron couldn’t stay away for that long. No matter how angry he was with me. Being a pain in my ass had always brought him joy. Three months. Fvck. “His house?” I asked again, dropping the pipe messily onto the desk. “Not yet.” I scoffed. Was he avoiding me? The moron had no pride. He chose to stay in the house I gave him while claiming to be pissed at me. “Moron,” I muttered under my breath. I stood swiftly, but a wave of dizziness slammed into me, throwing me off balance. Instinctively, I grabbed the table for support. “Kae—” Adrian called, alarmed. He grabbed my shoulder to steady me. “Hmmm…” I exhaled deeply, my eyes squeezing shut as a sharp pain shot repeatedly through my skull. “Are you okay?” he asked, his voice laced with concern. I said nothing, trying to pull myself together. “Get away from me,” I snapped, suddenly irritated at how he hovered like I was some sick weakling. Immediately, he backed off, not daring to challenge my tone. I opened my eyes slowly. The headache disappeared as suddenly as it had come. A surge of anger roared within me. It had been so long since I’d had an episode that I had almost forgotten about it. Fvck. I tried to steady my breathing, refusing to give in to the rage clawing at my insides. My sharp claws had already extended, and my eyes flashed golden yellow. “Fvck,” I cursed under my breath. My breathing was hard and erratic. “Should I prepare the ring?” Adrian asked, knowing exactly what I usually did when this happened. I would go to the ring and unleash my rage on any unfortunate man foolish enough to face me. Most ended up in terrible shape. A few died. That happened when the rage consumed me completely, when the curse demanded blood. A life. And what I was feeling now… I needed no seer to tell me today was one of those days. It wanted blood. A soul. And I would give it gladly. “No,” I bristled, my face now cold and savage like a blood-drunk monster. “We head to the House of Shadow first,” I said, striding toward the door. I needed to see Aaron first. After that… I could go satisfy my rage. Another unfortunate man was going to meet his maker tonight.
