Sitting in my mother; Claire Rhylie's study, silence the only guest willing to speak. Looking around I notice my whole family seated in different areas of the room. All including my twin sister Allisson Rhylie, my older brother Adrian Rhylie, and my baby sister Ariella Rhylie. Allisson and Ariella are seated on the couch in the far left corner. Adrian is standing next to my mom's desk on the right side of the seating area where Allisson and Ariella are seated, behind which sits my mother. In the left corner close to the door stands the two bulky guys from earlier in rigid stances like they are ready for anything.
Leaning against the now-closed door is the stranger that brought me here, right leg bent so that his foot is placed on the oak wood door. Smirking he gesture for me to look behind me. My mom stares at me with a stern look as I stand before her still very much confused in this situation. "Mom?" I ask her, my arms gesturing for her to speak.
Entwining her fingers together, she clears her throat. "Addison please have a seat would you." I do as she says, placing my hands awkwardly on my lap. "What's this all about?" I ask her agitated as the room is filled with silence. "You" Comes her single worded reply.
"How so?" I ask looking at the stranger behind me and his sidekicks in the left corner. "Patience my dear." Comes my mom's voice once more. Rolling my eyes I turn back towards her, leaning back against my seat. "So, I have decided it's the right time to do this seeing as you are eighteen in a few months." She says calmly, though I'm still confused.
"What decision?" I ask her as I'm growing impatient due to her pausing every so often. "The decision to get you into an alliance though there are requirements." She pauses again, her answer startles me. Widening my eyes at her I take in a deep breath, clenching my fist. "Do I even get a say in this?" I ask out loud even if I already know the answer, I just had a little hope I was wrong.
A laugh erupts throughout the room coming from my mother. Sometimes I think she is crazy. "My dear, of course not. Now be a doll and shut that pretty mouth of yours would you." Says my mom in the sweetest voice. She is not all evil like you might think, she just thinks she needs to make the decisions all the time. Making a zipping motion I gesture for her to continue.
"Thank you. Now as I've said, I have made a decision and I think it's time. Well ever since your dad died things have been a bit tough with our company..." At the mention of my dad, I take in a sharp breath to try and hold back my tears prickling the back of my eyes. Breathing out my mom continues in a calm voice.
"In his will, he said to distribute the company equally amongst the four of you's. But there was something that I had no idea of until now." She looks at all four of us, though her gaze falls on the stranger last. Staying there for quite some time. "There is another company your dad was the leader of, though it's a business that needs to remain low-key. Nobody is aware of this business besides some trusted men of your father's. So to get my point across I am saying you, Addison was given the job of continuing this business when you turn eighteen. It was also left in your father's will though it was not given to me until earlier this week."
"Seeing as that will be in a few months I have had to decide for you to get that position." Staring at me as if asking me to continue, I nod slightly as a yes. "That decision was to get you a partner to help you with that." Furrowing my brows at the condition. "So what was so hard about that? He or she will only be my partner for the business right?"
Clearing her throat, my mom tries avoiding my eyes. "Come on mom tell us." Comes the gentle voice of Allisson. "Yeah, mom what is it?" Says Adrian's hard voice. "Uhum." my mom clears her throat once more. "Well the condition was that not only will he be your business partner, but in the future, he will have to become your husband." My mom stares at me for a long moment, then her eyes drift over to the stranger behind me, back to me then to my siblings.
A fist slamming against the table startles me and my mom as my brother's voice breaks through the air. "Why on earth does that have to happen, it makes zero to no sense mom." He stares at my mom in the eyes, rage covering his. "Couldn't dad ask me to do it instead, I mean I'm sure it would have been safer. She is only a little girl mom, and what about this guy, who is he?" Asks my brother in a hard tone.
"Calm down Adrian, and it was not my decision. Your father chose Addison because she is more capable of all the training she received when you were not interested." Looking at me she gives me a gentle smile. "And besides your sister is a very strong-willed woman. And there would be no issues regarding her safety, the guy is splendid really." She says the last part staring at the stranger behind me.
Smirking the stranger walks forward and gestures to my mom. "This is your partner for the business and your future husband Addison." An angry growl fills the room as my brother shouts at my mother. "Really mom? This is wrong, Addison should make her own choices. Why are you ruining her life?" His fist collides with the table again causing a pen to fall onto the ground.
Standing up, my mom slams her fist onto the table, her hard stare towards my brother. "First of all Adrian, that is not the way to speak to your mother. And secondly, I had no choice in this, the only thing that I had to decide on was who that partner was going to be ok. I put Addison's safety first." Says my mom in one breath. Breathing deeply my mom turns to me and fix's her shirt and sits down composing herself.
Clearing her throat, my mom continues in a calm voice. "I met up with some of your father's most trusted men about two weeks ago. They did some research and came across, The King of the underground. He was the best candidate for the position, with his skills and caring nature. So that's who I chose to be the suitable partner for Addison. I've also learned that he inherited a business from his grandfather, and he was willing to merge the two companies to make it stronger."
At the end of her sentence, she gestures to the guy who I just noticed, who is standing right next to me. A smirk plays across his perfect features as he puts his hand forward. "Sebastian Clark, The underground King and heir to the Blue Eagles." He winks at the end of his sentence then turns to my mom. "Oh don't be rude Addison. Shake the young man's hand would you." Says my mother's voice.
"Oh you are some fine piece of meat aren't you?" Says Allison's voice as she strides over to Sebastian and places her hand into his, to shake it. Though Sebastian has another charm to himself. He holds her fingers lightly on his, he then bends his head and places a soft kiss behind the palm of her hand. He drops his hand and smirks at her expression.
"He's a keeper Addison, trust my instincts." Says Allisson as she catches her breath and stares at me with wide eyes. This causes a growl to come out of my brother's chest. I shake my head at my sister as she makes her way back to Ariella. Rolling my eyes at Allisson, I laugh lightly at her bewildered expression.
The clearing of a throat causes me to turn around. I am met with stares of Sebastian, he gestures down to his hand. I look into his eyes then down to his outstretched hand before me. Clenching my left hand on my side, I raise my hand and place it in his larger one. Sebastian raising my hand towards his lips causes me to take in a large breath. His soft lips parting with my hand after a long moment causes a trail of tingles to be left on my hand and gentle tingles in my stomach.
"Addison?" Says my mother's voice from behind her desk. "Sebastian here will be taking you to his house. You will be living there from now onwards, to let you know each other. This will also be a great opportunity to learn new skills to help you with the business and in the future. Now, your bags are already packed and have been loaded into his car. If there is anything left in your room you might want to get, now is your chance. If you would like you can have a look and meet us in the living room after."
I don't know if it's my mom's calm exterior or my brother's angry expression that scares me more. "May I help? I hope it won't be too much of a bother." The sweet voice of Ariella reaches my ears as she stands behind me. "Oh of course you may sweetheart, you would never be a bother. Okay, now follow me." I say in a soft voice as I hug my twelve-year-old sister.
