Viktor’s grip on her chin tightened just enough to anchor her, his thumb brushing against her lower lip. The scent of cedar and rain flared, heavy and suffocating, completely drowning out the citrus-and-clove sweetness she had used to bait him.
"You think you understand the depths of what I would do," Viktor murmured, his voice dropping to a gravelly whisper that brushed against her skin. "But you are playing with fire, Anya. If the council saw how you look at me right now, they would call it treason. If a rival family saw it, they would call it a weakness."
Anya gasped softly, the sheer pressure of his dominant Alpha aura sending a violent shudder down her spine. Her knees felt weak, her Omega biology demanding she yield to the absolute authority standing over her. Yet, she forced herself to hold his gaze. She slid her hands up his chest, her fingers clutching the expensive fabric of his suit jacket.
"Let them call it whatever they want," she whispered, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. "They are terrified of you. And you... you only answer to me."
A dark, dangerous smile touched Viktor’s lips, though his eyes remained dead serious. He leaned down, his lips hovering a mere inch from the sensitive skin of her neck, right where her scent gland pulsed rapidly with her escalating arousal. He breathed her in, a low growl vibrating deep in his chest.
"I answer to the oath I made to keep you safe," he corrected, his breath hot against her skin. "Even if I have to save you from yourself."
He didn't bite, but the proximity alone was torturous. He let his hand slide down from her chin to trap her waist, pulling her flush against him so she could feel the rigid tension in his frame. The boundary between brotherly protection and dark, possessive obsession dissolved entirely in the moonlit room.
