Chapter 5 -THE BITE THAT DIDN’T HEAL

SERAPHINA’S POV
The Thorne Medical Chamber
I kept telling myself that I was dead.
I just had to be.
This was all a dream, and I was only imagining it.
I look around the room as I slowly open my eyes. Bright lights and white walls filled my eyes.
This was it. Heaven?
I try to move my limbs, but they won’t move.
Great, I wasn’t only dead, I was paralyzed.
A man in a white coat suddenly entered the room, a bright red stethoscope hanging over his neck as he walked over to me.
He waves a hand over my face as he quickly goes ahead to write something in his notebook.
I try to speak, but I cannot.
Another doctor walks in. His eyes move to me as he whispers something to the other doctor.
Something was off.
They were whispering, but I could hear them clearly.
‘Kale must have been out of his mind for bringing a human into the Crimson Claw territory. ‘ The doctor who just walked in stated.
‘Half human…’ The doctor with the red stethoscope muttered as he cleared his throat.
The other doctor gives him a weird look and then quickly dashes out of the room.
Half Human?
The sharp pain in my head was back again as I tried my hardest to recall all the events that had happened earlier.
I had no idea how I ended up here, but something told me that I wasn’t where I needed to be.
Suddenly, a very huge and tall man walks into the room. From his height, he looked to be around 6’3 or 6’4. He was wearing a tight-fitted white t-shirt that drew attention to his broad and muscular arms and shoulders.
He walked past the doctor, whispered something in his ear, and then walked over to my bed.
The doctor had left the room right after their brief conversation, leaving only me and this stranger in this big and empty room.
I felt my breath cease the moment he leaned in to look at me.
‘I know you can hear me,’ He states. This time, his gaze moved up and down my body, his eyes focused on my palms that lay right on top of my belly.
‘Who are you?’ I finally say as my voice starts to creep in.
He shoots me an icy look, his expression dull and unbothered as he takes a seat beside the bed.
‘I should be asking you that question,’ he states as he leans closer to me. ‘Who exactly are you, and what business do you have in our territory?’
I was fighting everything in my body, coupled with the pain I felt in my upper back, to not stare at this man.
He was drop-dead gorgeous, his eyes were blue and beautiful, and they looked like they held so many secrets.
Secrets that I suddenly wanted to know what they were.
His thick jet black hair was slicked back, highlighting his cool-toned fair skin.
He was still staring, and I could have sworn that I saw something flash in his eyes.
Hunger or Lust? Something about this man pulled me to him, and I couldn't put my finger on it.
I clear my throat as I try to get up.
He quickly stops me as he utters, ‘I don’t think you should be doing that.’
‘Your back is -
He stops midsentence as he takes a look at my back.
‘What’s wrong with my back ?’ I quickly ask, trying to turn around to get a good look.
His eyes widen in shock as he shoots me a puzzling look.
‘You were attacked in the forest,’ he states.’ And…my men had…let’s just say you were injured severely.’
I look at my arms, and visible bruises are all over my hands. But none of them looked like they had just happened.
They looked like old wounds that had been there for years.
My mind suddenly snapped back to what he had just said, and the memories started flooding in.
‘Ouch,’ I say as I place a finger on my head.
‘Are you alright ?’ Kale asks as he reaches for my hands.
I flinch and shout, ‘Get away from me. I don’t know what you are, but I know for sure that I don’t belong here.’
‘I knew I should have killed you the moment I saw you,’ he mutters quietly under his breath.
‘Wow, so you had plans to kill me ?’ I ask, giving him a look of disgust as I raise an eyebrow.
‘Wait…How did you hear-
‘I don’t want to be involved in any of this, ‘ I quickly blurt out as I quickly get up from the bed.
The hospital bedding falls off my body as I stand stark naked in front of the jet black-haired stranger.
His eyes darken in split seconds as his eyes scan my entire body.
He quickly looks away as I grab the sheet, covering myself up.
‘I’m sorry, I- ‘I say under breath. ‘I didn’t know...Where the hell are my clothes?’
Still looking away, he asks, ‘Covered yet?’
‘Yes, yes,’ I say.
He turns around slowly, his eyes meeting mine.
‘I’m afraid I can’t let you leave,’ he states.
I cross my arms across my chest, and his eyes follow.
‘Why’s that?’ I ask.
‘I would rather keep those reasons to myself,’ he answers.
‘Then, the least you can do is tell me why the hell I’m here.’ I say, pacing slowly back and forth. My hands are on my head. ‘The only thing I can remember was running through the forest and then…’
I stop in my tracks and then look back at him.
‘Two men…they were coming after me.’ I continue. ‘Wait…I don’t think they were men, they didn’t sound like humans…wait, well, they did, but at the same time they didn’t. f**k it. I think I’m going crazy.’
‘You’re not going crazy, Seraphina,’ the stranger says.
‘Wait…I don’t remember telling you my name,’ I quickly blurt out.
How did he know that?
I could have sworn that he was the first person I was having a conversation with since all this chaos started.
Maybe we knew each other before, and I couldn’t remember.
‘We’ve never met,’ he says with a bold smirk, revealing fangs.
I scoot backward in fear.
‘How can you…. You can hear my thoughts ?’ I ask as my grip tightens on the sheet.
‘I believe I have not made an introduction, Miss Vale,’ he states as he moves even closer.
His cologne smelled even stronger.
His eyes were getting colder, and traces of blue glistened underneath.
‘I’m Kael Thorne, Alpha of the Crimson Claw Pack… and Seraphina Vale.’ He paused, eyes flashing like lightning. ‘You’re not just one of us. You’re the one we’ve been waiting for.’
I couldn’t see it, but at that moment, I felt the world divide.
My warm brown eyes suddenly glowed both gold and silver.
