Chapter Six

Isla’s POV “I don’t know.” The words barely left my lips before the air shifted. Liam’s entire body stiffened. His jaw tightened, golden eyes flashing with something raw—pain, frustration, maybe even fury. Kieran? He just smirked. Slow. Amused. Like he had already won. “Well, well.” His voice was a purr of satisfaction. “Seems like the little wolf is confused.” I clenched my fists, heat rushing to my face. I’m not confused. I just… didn’t know how to choose between the mate who broke me and the rogue who stole me. Liam’s voice was strained, clipped. “Isla, you don’t belong here. He’s dangerous.” Kieran chuckled. “And you’re not?” He tilted his head at Liam, silver eyes gleaming. “I seem to recall you letting your little mate be humiliated in front of your entire pack. But by all means, tell us again how much you care.” Liam growled, stepping forward, fists curled. “Say that again.” Kieran sighed. “Is this really what we’re doing? A pissing contest over a girl?” His gaze flicked to me. “No offense, little wolf.” I gritted my teeth. “All offense taken.” “Good.” He grinned. “Then let’s make it interesting. Isla, pick. Right now.” Liam’s gaze snapped to mine. “Come back with me.” Kieran leaned in slightly, voice dropping to a whisper. “Or stay with someone who actually wants you.” My breath caught. “You think marking me makes me yours?” “No, little wolf.” His voice was silk and steel. “I think it makes me your only option.” Liam snarled. “She’s not yours.” Kieran shrugged. “Then let’s ask her.” All eyes turned to me. My chest tightened. The weight of their gazes—one full of anger, one full of expectation—felt suffocating. But before I could say a word— A deep, guttural snarl split the night air. A sound that made every instinct in my body scream danger. Kieran’s smirk vanished. Liam’s body tensed. The scent hit me next. Blood. Rot. And something else—something ancient and wrong. “Rogues?” Liam’s voice was sharp, but there was hesitation beneath it. Kieran’s silver eyes flickered toward the trees. “Not mine.” Then I saw them. Shadows moving between the trees, gliding instead of walking. Their eyes glowed red, fangs flashing as they stepped into the moonlight. “Vampires.” My voice was barely a whisper. The leader stepped forward, his face a mask of cruel amusement. “Well,” he drawled, lips curling, “isn’t this interesting?” Liam took a protective step toward me. “You’re trespassing.” The vampire smirked. “And you’re outnumbered.” Kieran let out an unimpressed sigh. “If you’re looking for easy prey, you picked the wrong camp.” The vampire’s gaze flicked to me. “Oh, I don’t know. Looks like we found something very interesting.” A chill ran down my spine. Liam’s hands curled into fists. “If you want a fight, you’ll get one.” The vampire sighed. “So dramatic.” His eyes gleamed. “Kill them.” The first vampire lunged. Everything exploded into motion. Liam shifted mid-air, his golden fur flashing in the moonlight as he slammed into the nearest attacker, claws slashing. Kieran moved like a shadow, his body twisting as he met another vampire head-on, his claws tearing into flesh. I didn’t think. Didn’t hesitate. A vampire lunged at me—I dropped, rolled, grabbed a fallen branch and swung. It cracked against his jaw. He snarled, stumbling back. I didn’t wait. I drove the sharpened end of the wood straight into his chest. A scream—high, shrill—before he turned to dust. But there were more. Too many. Kieran ripped through the nearest one, his movements deadly, efficient. His silver eyes flashed as he threw a glance at me. “Stay close.” Liam’s massive wolf snapped his jaws around another vampire’s throat, tearing through skin and bone. Blood sprayed, but he didn’t stop. I turned— Too late. A cold hand clamped around my throat. I gasped, my feet lifting off the ground as the leader smirked at me, his grip like iron. “Feisty little thing, aren’t you?” Liam snarled, shifting back to human. “Let her go.” The vampire sighed. “So predictable.” Then— Pain. Burning, searing pain as his fangs sank into my shoulder. I screamed. And then— A roar. Louder than anything I had ever heard. Not Liam. Kieran. The Rogue King moved faster than a shadow. One second he was across the clearing— The next, he was ripping the vampire off me. No words. No hesitation. Just pure, violent rage. He tore into the vampire with a snarl, silver eyes glowing, his entire body shaking with fury. The vampire tried to scramble back, blood dripping from his mouth. “W-wait—” Kieran didn’t wait. With a savage growl, he drove his claws into the vampire’s chest and ripped. A choked scream—then nothing. Just dust. Silence fell. I gasped, pressing a hand to my bleeding shoulder. My vision swayed. “Isla.” Liam reached for me. “You’re hurt—” “Don’t touch her.” Kieran’s voice was low. Dangerous. Liam’s gaze snapped to him. “She’s my mate.” “She’s mine now.” My breath hitched. They stared at each other, the air thick with tension. And me? I was caught in the middle.
