Chapter Eight TESS The next morning, I woke to a pounding headache. I showered and put my house clothes back on. Careful not to wake Brick, I searched for my shoes, but they weren’t in the room. Damn. I must have kicked them off in the living room. Thankfully, the place was quiet, and I found my shoes by the coffee table. Just as I slipped the second one on, I heard the couch squeak. “Tess?” Brick rubbed his eyes. “Where are you going?” I stood and headed for the door. “I need to go to work.” “What?” “I’ll call you later.” “Hang on—” I opened the door to Trigger holding a tray of coffee cups.
