Liam stood up and stretched his right hand towards me. For a moment, I was lost, staring at him, but I quickly composed myself and reached for his hand. Liam lifted me up while his left hand held my waist for balance. My body shivered at his touch.
"Sorry about that," I said, creating a space between us.
"No, no, it's fine," Liam replied.
"When did you return?" I asked, trying to reduce the tension.
"A while ago," he answered. "I came back a while ago."
"Oh, well, that's good," I said. "How is school?"
"Not bad," Liam said.
"How is the wedding preparation going?"
"Well, Mom and Sophia have been doing a great job," I said. "I think it's going to come out pretty well."
Liam nodded. "That's nice."
I felt a sudden urge to ask him a question. "How do you feel about my mom getting married to your dad?"
Liam paused for a moment before looking straight at me, our eyes meeting.
"I think your mom is a very nice person, and my dad really likes her. So, yeah, I'm in full support."
I looked away, feeling shy and trying to break the intensity of our gaze.
"Oh, I hope we get along well," I said.
"I think we will," Liam replied.
"I should go," I said, walking backwards. "I have some things to do in my room... some reading... and stuff."
"No problem," Liam said. "We'll catch up later."
"Sure," I replied quickly, turning my back to him and walking into the house.
The next morning, I walked into the dining room, feeling a little nervous. Liam was already seated at the table, sipping a cup of coffee. I hesitated for a moment, wondering where to sit, but then I spotted the empty chair beside him. I sat down, trying to act nonchalant, but my heart was racing.
Liam looked up at me and smiled. "Good morning," he said, his voice low and husky.
I smiled back at him, feeling a little shy. "Good morning."
Mom and Lucas greeted me warmly, asking about my night. I replied, trying to sound casual, while stealing glances at Liam. The way he chewed his food and sipped his coffee sent shivers down my spine.
As Lucas regaled us with stories about his company, Liam seemed to sense my gaze. He looked up, his eyes locking onto mine, and I felt a jolt of electricity. I quickly looked away, trying to compose myself.
But I couldn't help sneaking another glance, and another, and another. Each time, our eyes met, and I felt that same spark of attraction. It was like I was under a spell, unable to break free.
Liam finished his breakfast and pushed his chair back. "I'm going to grab some more coffee," he said, standing up. "Want some?"
I nodded, still feeling dazed. "Yeah, please."
With his back to me, Liam poured himself a cup of coffee. My eyes roamed over his broad shoulders and narrow hips, and I felt a flutter in my chest. I knew I was in trouble. I was developing feelings for Liam, and I had no idea how to stop them.
I tried my best to avoid running into Liam for a while, I would leave my room only when I was sure he was in his. My mom and Lucas would be getting married soon and I had to get rid o
f any immoral thoughts about my soon to be Stepbrother.
