Mark and Rebecca sat on the couch, the dim glow of the TV casting flickering light over the living room. The smell of Chinese takeout filled the air as they lazily picked at their food. Rebecca nestled into Mark’s side, resting her head against his shoulder with a satisfied sigh. “This is nice,” she murmured, her fingers absently tracing small circles on his chest. Mark nodded, though his mind was elsewhere. His eyes were on the screen, but he wasn’t really watching the movie. His thoughts kept drifting—back to earlier in the evening, back to Kendra. The way she looked in that dress, the way Alex had reacted to her, the way she had run out the door, laughing, carefree. It should have been a normal moment, something unremarkable. But it wasn’t. Rebecca’s voice broke through his thoughts.
