The next day, Kendra didn’t come home until late. As Alex pulled up to her house, he turned to her with a lazy smile, his fingers tracing soft circles on her knee.
“Text me later?” he asked, his voice low, almost reluctant to let her go.
Kendra smirked against his lips as she leaned in for one last kiss. “Okay,” she murmured before pulling away, grabbing her purse, and stepping out of the car.
As she walked inside, the scent of spices and garlic filled the air. Marina was in the kitchen, stirring a large pot, while Rebecca stood beside her, attempting to chop vegetables under Marina’s watchful eye.
“You’re going too slow,” Marina scolded, snatching the knife from Rebecca’s hand. “Let me do it before we’re eating at midnight.”
