Rebecca returned and told everyone to get ready—they were leaving in fifteen minutes to go out for dinner. She turned to Alex with a warm smile. “Would you like to join us?” she asked. Alex glanced at Kendra, his grin widening. “Sure, I’d like that.” Mark’s jaw clenched involuntarily. Everyone split off to get changed. Mark headed upstairs, forcing himself to take slow, even breaths. He shouldn’t care that Alex was going with them. Kendra was free to do whatever she wanted. And yet, the idea of her spending the evening with Alex, laughing and smiling at him like she had been by the pool, made Mark’s grip on the bathroom sink tighten.
