Blake sat across his bed, his legs crossed, head tilted to the side as he watched her get out of the room. She didn't even know he was watching her. She had rushed out of the room without sparing him a last glance. He shook his head. His once-blue eyes were gone, replaced with his red, growling wolf eyes.
A small, devilish smile curled up his lips as he slid off his bed. Slowly, he made his way towards the balcony of the room, a devilish thought rolling in his head. Placing his hands on the guardrail, he stared down, watching her every move as she made her way out of his villa. The autistic human part of him was gone, replaced with his wolf side now.
He scoffed. "She thought she would escape without my knowledge?" he said, his voice cold as the wind carried his voice across the dark streets.
Blake might be an autist, but his wolf side wasn't. Although affected, his wolf side would always be there. His wolf had become part of his day. The cold, brooding wolf became the one people saw daily, and they got afraid.
His eyes slid shut. A cold air rolled down his lungs. It was time for business. He had other things to take care of. He couldn't stay here watching the woman he would marry anytime soon leave his palace. The question still lingered within him: although betrothed, did he want to go look for her?
Stepping out of the cold room, he made his way through the hallway. The black denim jacket he wore tightened around his waist, showing his tight curve. His white hair spilled across his face. He couldn't help but swallow the lump in his throat as he got to the stairs outside.
Jayden stood across the garden, hands crossed above his chest, his chin lifted as his gaze peered at the distance. He must have seen Imogen leave.
"You didn't stop her," he said as soon as Blake stepped down the stairs.
He might have a young face and looked more like a small boy of five, but in secret, he was something deeper than that. Something Imogen was yet to know.
"Why do you think I would stop her?" Blake asked. "Who told her I was an autist?"
"I'm sorry, she needed to know the truth about you. You are the wolf, you know? The real Blake is the one with blue eyes," Jayden remarked.
"I won't blame you," he paused, not sparing him a glance as he continued his journey out the villa. "If only you knew how much the baby boy with blue eyes loved her. I'm waiting for my mate." He shrugged.
"So? You would leave your betrothed woman in the woods?"
"At least I didn't take her there myself. So... she'll make her way back."
The words were sharp in the air, one that made Jayden pause in his movements for a second. His eyes squinted as he tried to understand what he had just heard. His expression was like that of Imogen when she wanted to understand what was happening on the phone, and for some reason, it felt irritating when he did it.
Blake turned sharply. "Do not use that expression ever again. You don't do that at all, so don't start now," he said, his voice low. "I've got things to do. There's no need wasting my time around here."
Making his way towards the palace, Blake didn't blink. He nodded at everyone that bowed to him, hands in his pocket, a cold indifference masked across his face.
Stepping into the palace's great living room, his eyes caught his mum, Selene, sitting across the room. She crossed her legs, reading through the contract file in her hands.
"Congratulations on getting a daughter-in-law that can't even sit her a*s down one place," he growled, heading towards her. He lowered himself onto the couch beside her.
"What did she do again?" Selene asked.
"She left."
"And you couldn't stop her?"
"What do you call me? A guard?"
"You stupid wolf, you know my son likes that girl."
"You stupid woman, you know I love to find my mate. Don't even get me started here."
"Oh, moon goddess." Her hands flew into the air dramatically as she dropped the file in her hands.
At the corner of his eye, Blake spotted Kai. His lips dry, eyes bloodshot, a dark aura radiating off him.
"Kai doesn't look good, woman. Why not send him to his mate?"
"You stupid wolf, I'm your mother. Don't you know that?"
"At least I'm serious."
"He called him a few hours ago. Let's just hope he arrives sooner or later."
She carried the file again, her huge round glasses sat on her nose bridge. She smiled, her focus returned. Turning her gaze towards Blake, she said, "Why are you still sitting down there? Won't you look for her?"
"I'm not her bodyguard. She can disappear and reappear. She chose to walk, so... I'm left out of it. She'll be fine." He shrugged. "Why are you smiling over that file?"
"The contract is delicious," she said. "We are getting a new bid. And we would have to take out the bad roots sooner or later."
He could only watch as she returned her attention towards the file again. This time there wasn't a smile. At the mention of bad roots, he knew what she meant. There would be a great amount of bloodshed.
He sighed, staring at Kai again. After much thought, he stood up and walked towards him. He pressed his palm across his head, checking how bad his health might be.
Withdrawing his hands, he hissed slightly, turning towards Selene. "He's burning."
Kai turned his head to look at him before turning his head again. "You just know I am burning before saying I should go with you this morning? Bastard," he cursed.
"Hey, don't look at me that way," Blake said. "You know I can't drive."
"Stay away from me."
Blake sighed, turning towards Selene again. He spread his hands into the air, dragging himself towards the chair again.
"The both of you are getting married next month. The 30th, to be precise." Her tone was laced with a sense of finality.
"Nah... you can't be serious, woman—"
"For goddess's sake, have some respect, you stupid wolf!"
"I'll say it again, I am not marrying that girl, woman!" he snapped. "Now wear your glasses straight and tell me what the contract said."
