"What?" Her heart almost left her chest.
Imogen turned her head towards the balcony door again. Her fingers trembled as she pointed at the door. Lips parted, she tried to form a word, but nothing came up.
"Is this some kind of magic?" She asked herself, her voice low.
She sighed, her body calmed almost instantly. The fear she had was gone, replaced with something darker. Something that could destroy the whole werewolf kingdom in a blink.
"Your Highness," Selene's voice jolted her back to her dry thoughts.
She needed to escape, and there was no point in caring about any sort of magic. She needed to think straight, it was close to 4pm and she still haven't gotten out of this house. She needed to be really fast so she would be able to meet Moira when she arrives.
Selene lowered her gaze as she stepped closer. With every step she took, it was a rhythm of empty sounds as if the whole place was dry and there was nothing beneath her feet. Her feet dragged upon the white marble. The air became frigid, to the extent she could feel how heavy their breath was.
‘That is weird’ Imogen thought, her skin tightened against the sharp cold temperature. It felt more like eating her skin off as soon as Selene had showed up. It made her mind go blank, she began questioning everything she knew. Everything she had believed and how concrete they were; the werewolf world never uses magic. In fact, this smells more like witchcraft. But in the were-world, their history foretold nothing of magic. Although, they had wolves with magics, they were all burned and killed.
“You seem to be lost, your Highness.” Selene said,
The words caught Imogen off-guard. She was really lost. “I… I…” She couldn't form the right words without lying, “was just finding my way.” She added,
“ Alright, follow me.” Selene said, “I'm sorry, Jayden had left you without telling you how trickish the hallway can be.” She said,
“ Meaning?”
“ You shouldn't worry, Imogen.” Selene paused, “we need to talk and let you know how things work here.”
Imogen felt the irritation that came across through her words. The sharp sting that made her feel less important. The unwanted signal that made her much more enthusiastic about running away from this place.
Imogen and Selene got back to the living room too soon. And that was when she saw something that made her frightened. As a fae princess with wings and glamour, she just couldn't fathom how the stairs here were identical to the one she had walked through.
She nodded her head continuously as everything began making sense. The dots were connecting, but she still couldn't decipher what it had meant. Perhaps, that was the structure of this house.
“ Sit.” Sharp as blade, Selene's voice commanded the echoes in the corridors of the mansion, everywhere became silent the moment she spoke.
Imogen didn't have a choice, she sat down. Her eyes scanning through the room for the weak guy and Jayden. Selene had mentioned his name, but she wasn't paying attention.
“ What do you want from me?” Imogen asked, her legs crossed. Her hands folded across her chest. Her lips curved. She bored into Selene with a cold stare that made the air heavy.
“ Since, you've known who my son really is, there's no need to lie about this whole thing anymore.” She paused, “ I want you to take care of my son and to help keep his autism a secret.”
“ In return?”
“ You get nothing. Your father has made a bid on this already and you will have to fulfill what the contract says.”
“ Why did my father betroth me to your son, despite knowing he isn't mentally stable?”
Visibly, Selene clutched the hem of her silk gown tightly. Her eyes flickered. The warmth she had worn was gone. Her whole body had enlarged. Veins pulsing against her skin. The veins in her hands became more visible, turning redーImogen could only watch in silence.
She sat, arms crossed leaning into the white couch staring down at Selene. A small smile crept up her face. This has said it all, the werewolves lie a lot. And they weren't like other creatures.
Selene shook her head, her hands clenched. Slowly, her body calmed. Letting out a deep sigh, she turned her face away from Imogen, as if trying to shield herself.
“I would advise you not to say that ever again.” She said, “ Do not think you live in as a princess in this house. You are lower than that. Get that clear,” her voice came out more like a growl.
She stood up, heading out of the sitting room. There was no point staying here. Imogen watched as she left. A low hiss escaped her lips. Her mind raced with thoughts as she tried to forget everything that Selene might have said. But, they just couldn't leave her mind alone.
The door swung open. Two maids came in. They were dressed in black mini gown. Both bowed their heads curtly to show respect.
“ What do you guys want?”
“ You are asked to follow us,” They both said.
She didn't wait for them to say anything further as she jumped to her feet. All she needed to do was to act calm. She would be out of here anytime soon. She would no longer be here. It's just a matter of time.
As the maids strode out of the room, she trailed behind them. Her steps slow. Her eyes scanned through the whole place. There would be no mistake next time she would try running. It would be a smooth escape.
She took note of every single details. The strong decor that stood out at every stops. The different vases at each corners. Every single thing she could use to differentiate each turn.
They got out of the mansion and we're still heading for the unknown. Imogen found it hard to believe that there wasn't a single soul in that mansion. Or maybe there was, but there was no one standing or walking around.
Imogen stared at the Villa in front of her. The maids also kept walking. And as soon as they pushed the door opened, she saw who she hadn't expect. Jayden and the grumpy autist.
“This is where you will stay from now on. With Alpha.” The maid said,
“ You can't be serious about this.” She spread her hands into the air dramatically.
“No, your Highness. It's Luna's order.”
“ Tell your Luna that I can't be with… Alpha.” She snapped,
