The air was heavy with a floral scent—one that made Blake feel lighter from the inside. He stared at the doorway, watching Imogen's every move.
A small smile crept up his lips. He tapped his fingers across the couch, a subtle rhythm of three numbers, as if sending information.
He watched as Imogen turned, not wanting to maintain eye contact with the maids. Her hands crossed above her chest, her shoulders tucked, lips pressed tightly together.
"What does she think she is doing?" Blake asked.
His red eyes glowed. He leaned into the couch, his face masked with cold indifference. He crossed his leg, his eyes boring into the distance.
"She doesn't want to stay," Jayden said.
Jayden knew something but wasn't telling. He knew what she might be thinking, but he wasn't ready to tell. What could it be? Blake asked himself.
"Inform the maids to leave." His voice was cold.
Jayden didn't wait for him to say any more words. He burst into action, his steps fast. Despite being short, he was quick to get to the door. A smile appeared across his lips.
"It will be a pleasure if you guys leave." His tone was more of an adult's.
The maids didn't wait for an extra second; they scrambled out the next moment. Imogen was left surprised at how they had obeyed a little boy without questioning. Her jaw dropped. She prepared herself to say a word but decided against it.
Blake could only watch from where he had seated, his body stiff. His red eyes sent shivers down the frigid room. There was no way she would reject him to his face, was there? The more he thought about it, the more surreal it got.
Jayden shrugged, pointing his hands inside the house as if welcoming her inside, but Imogen wasn't ready to come in. Her lips curved slightly, her eyes bloodshot.
"At least come in, let's prepare something for you," Jayden said.
Blake could only watch the both of them from afar. He wanted to cuddle. He wanted to stay with her. That was the feeling.
His eyes rolled, blank, as images from the time he had seen her flashed across his mind. He had felt his whole body shake back then, his senses heightened.
He stood up, hands in his pockets, face straightened as he made his way up the stairs. His mind raced with thoughts—thoughts that threatened to swallow him whole. The thought of being lonely if she refused to stay.
His ears perked up, listening to the small argument between his little brother and Imogen. They were both having a tough time agreeing on who stays inside and who doesn't.
The hallway was quiet. So quiet it had started to feel more like an ennui. Blake narrowed his way slowly to his room. His eyes rolled in his head.
"We'll get what you want," he said, his voice low.
He pushed the door open, stepping inside his room. He strode towards the window. Each step he took was the feeling he got from how lonely he was feeling.
As he was about to sit down, the door swung open. Jayden and Imogen were standing right there.
"So this is the only room inside this house." Jayden paused. "You are going to be spending the night with my brother."
As soon as he said that, he didn't wait. He pushed Imogen inside, shutting the door behind her.
"Bye-bye!" he yelled.
Blake didn't bother looking at her as he walked towards his bed. Lying flat, his eyes slid shut. A low oomph escaped his lips almost instantly.
On the other side of the room, Imogen stood still. Her whole body shook with anger. She stood there without saying a word. Visibly, her hands trembled. Her breath was heavy.
She turned on her phone, checking what time it was.
"6:30," she whispered.
Time was flying. It wasn't waiting for her. It wasn't giving her a breathable space. She paced back and forth in the room, gripping her phone tightly with both hands, her fingers running through her hair.
"What do I do?" she asked herself.
On the bed, Blake opened his eyes slightly. He lifted his head, looking at her. A low hiss slid out his lips before he closed his eyes again.
He didn't care about whatever she might be going through. He didn't need to care. She was betrothed to him, and she belonged to him. No one else.
"Walk slowly, you're disturbing my ears," he growled, his voice low.
Imogen paused; her whole body went stiff for a moment. She growled, "Come and open the goddamn door, you autistic bastard!" she yelled.
Blake didn't say anything. The door was open. There was no lock on it; he didn't understand why she didn't want to open it herself. She should have gone out if she wanted.
"I won't step out of this room myself unless you do so," she said.
She wasn't ready to open the door. The more she restricted, the more Blake figured there was something behind why she was doing that and wasn't ready to step out of the room.
"You should step out yourself if you want; do not disturb me," he said.
"What now?" she asked. "You won't answer?"
Blake knew that all she wanted was for him to come and open the door, but he wasn't ready to do so. He needed to know her intentions. He wanted to know.
As he was about to speak again, Blake forced his wolf out, blocking it from taking control of his consciousness.
He curled up onto the bed, his fingers curling around the red duvet. He inhaled the cologne scent. It made his nose itch slightly.
He was already in the best position to watch each of her every move, and he was ready to start. She would yell. He would watch.
At the side of the room, she was constantly checking her phone—maybe checking what time it might be.
Her phone buzzed. She paused, staring at Blake. She moved closer, careful not to make any noise. To her, Blake was asleep, so she needed to check if he was really asleep.
To Blake, he was watching each and every move she made and was wondering what she might be doing.
"Alpha," she called.
The room was dark, so she couldn't see his eyes from even a step away. She called him again. And after seeing he wasn't answering, she answered the call.
"Hello?" she said as soon as she placed the phone across her left ear.
"Yeah, I will be there now. You are close to the pack, right?" she said.
