7 - 7 - Rodin sat in the small cabin, peering through the smeared window as the muddy land disappeared from view. Cat, his face tinged green, sat on the other end of the seat, and he didn’t talk. The water was choppy, and Rodin’s stomach churned in sympathy with the boat. Not seasickness, he was sure of that. Seasickness didn’t leave limbs aching, did it? Cat had let Rodin lead their negotiations, in the back-room with Heeka. Heeka took the whole of Rodin’s pack as payment, and kept hold of it, even though he wouldn’t be the one to take them onto the water. That job fell to their pilot, or captain, or whatever his official title was. As far as Rodin could tell, his name was Orrick, and he was something of a maverick amongst the sailors. Rodin reckoned that was why he’d taken the job.
