Rodin followed Cat from the run-down building. Weeds pushed up through the paving. Rodin shivered.
“You sure this is the Dome?” Rodin asked.
“It’s a tale for a more relaxed time, but I’ll give you the short version, while we walk. Nobody much wanted to live too close to the estuary, and gradually the area became deserted. Something similar happened across to the west, where the river enters the Dome. In both places, the abandoned areas are now shielded from the rest of the Dome.”
Rodin glanced around, realised how dead the atmosphere was. “So nobody lives here?”
“Not officially. It wouldn’t surprise me if there were a few strays dotted around. But generally, this is a forgotten area. That’s why they built the wall.”
