14 - 14 - To Shae, Councillor Erinya’s office was a calm place, almost a sanctuary. It was one of the few places where she could lower her guard—not become her true self, but something close. Not on this day, though. Not when she had such an important task. The office was much like any other, with a large desk, easy chairs arranged around a glass-topped table, and views of the gardens through the floor-to-ceiling window. But Erinya had added her own touches—subtle lighting, an infuser connected to the atmosphere controls to give a floral hint to the air, and a couple of small artworks on the walls. The drinks cabinet was always stocked, although Shae had gone with chilled water today, and Erinya—always the dutiful host—drank the same. “Business is hectic, I take it,” Shae said
