Cora did exactly as Cat requested.
The gate was unmanned, the traps were disengaged, and the security systems accepted Cat’s codes. He walked for a couple of hours, the tunnels doubling back more times than he cared to count, but eventually he reached the final doorway, and stepped out into Genna’s district.
It took another hour to reach her towers, and Cat was struck by the changes. There were very few people around, and any he did spy retreated to the shadows faster than he’d have expected. In contrast, there were more Eyes on buildings, and Cat walked with that familiar sensation of being watched. But he held his head high, let his hand rest by his hip, and walked with the tread of one who knew where he was going, who had every right to tread these streets.
