I stood near the door to the cafeteria to wait for Lance and checked my email and voice mail. During the half hour before he arrived, I felt eyes on me and heard whispers as people walked by. I was sure the rumor mill already knew who I really was and everybody wanted to see for themselves. Whatever. I didn’t let it get to me, and soon, I felt a warm, familiar body slide next to mine.
