Chapter 9

1025 Words
I can't do this... The sound of my fellow peers echoed through my head as I walked through the halls to get to my lesson after recess. My class was Chemistry, another class with Grey. I hoped that he had kept what happened last night between himself and Alpha Cain and that he wouldn't show any sign of us being mates. I walked into class early as usual and took a seat in the middle of the class, the back row was off limits according to the Goliath Pack and I was not going to argue with them, especially not today. I reach down into my school bag to retrieve my books and place them on the desk in front of me. As I look up, I am startled by Juliet. She was leaning over my desk, making direct eye contact with me. I began to feel uncomfortable as she held her stare. "Hey mutt, how was the party?" she interrogates me. "Oh that's right. It didn't last longer than an hour, when daddy cut it short." She mocks me. I drop my eye line to the table in hopes that she leaves me alone. She just stands there waiting for an answer, anything. "Juliet, what's going on?" Grey questions as he strolls over to my table, his scent growing stronger every step he takes. I squeeze the edge of the table to stop myself from looking up at him. It took every bit of self control I had. "Oh, I was just talking to the mutt about her pathetic party." Juliet tells Grey, swishing her hair around flirtaciously. "I thought it was a great party!" Grey defends me, "Oh, that's right, you weren't invited, were you?" He asks sharply. Juliet shuffles from foot to foot nervously as Grey's reaction was not what she expected. I try to resist smiling at him but he was just so perfect. My cheeks started to blush a burning red. Shay wanted to take control so badly but I forced her to the back of my mind. "Ha, good one Grey." She laughs although he just made the funniest joke in history. "Who would want to go to a Red Woods Pack celebration?! Let's go take a seat." she insists whilst grabbing his arm and pulling him away from me. "Willow is my Chem partner, remember?" Grey raises his eyebrows. f**k, I forgot about that. This is going to be a long lesson. The whole class I sat trying to get Grey out of my mind, but his scent was so strong he was all that I could think about. I kept thinking about how easy it would be to just move my hand a few centimeters over to touch his. I was lucky today as Mr Williams spent the lesson explaining what was expected of our assessment, so we didn't actually have to work together today. As the minutes passed by, I had a sigh of relief when the bell rang for lunch. I packed my bag quietly and waited for Grey to leave with the other Goliath Pack members. He didn't. I braved standing up to make my exit. Grey stood up beside me as I did. We were standing face to face. I could hear his breathing, he was so close. I looked into his eyes and could see his hurt. I desperately wanted to wrap my arms around his neck and pull him close. Apologise for ignoring him. But i knew I couldn't. I was sure he knew it too. "Youve been forbidden to talk to me, haven't you?" Grey asked quietly so that no one else could hear. Even with their enhanced wolf hearing. I nodded in response. Grey's face dropped. "I was worried about that." He adds looking down to his hands. "I'm sorry." I whisper back. Grey smiles sweetly in return. It makes my heart pound. Shay is so desperate and pleading in my mind. I feel terrible for ignoring and denying her. Finally, I pull myself away and quickly hurry out of the classroom to avoid another run in with Juilet. As I got further away from the class I began to feel empty. I realized it was the further away I got from Grey, the more hollow I felt. The world around me was a blur, it was just Shay, my thoughts and I. Even if Shay was completely blocking me at the moment, I still know she is there. I feel a bit lighter when i see Aria sitting at our table for lunch. "How is your day going?" I ask, trying to sound chirpy. "Yea, not too bad!" She replies with a smile, "How about yours?" "Uneventful..." I answer with a shrug. It wasn't a complete lie - before chemistry it was uneventful. She hands me half of her sandwich and I pass her the other half of mine. I had nutella. "Salami, cheese and tomato." Aria beams. She knows it is one of my favourites. "Yes! Nutella!" She squeals when she takes a bit of my half. I was so relieved to have some normality, even for a few minutes between classes. "You ready for the new all-wolf PE class?" Aria asks with a mouthful of sandwich. "Not really. Physical activity is not my forte." I laugh. Aria chuckles. "I have heard it is going to be a self-defense class." Aria says. I think I caught a hint of excitement in her voice. "Are you looking forward to it?" I question, raising my eyebrows at her. Being excited for PE was so unlike her. "Being taught to beat the s**t out of some Goliath Pack members at school and being allowed to do it sounds pretty good to me!" She giggles. I roll my eyes at her dramatically. "I also wouldn't mind being partnered with Jacob, he has gotten hot over the summer holidays this year!" Aria adds. "I couldn't expect anything less." I coo. The ring of the school bell indicating the end of lunch fills me with dread. A whole 2 hours of PE with every Goliath Packs student at the school. Oh, the joy!
