THE SURVIVAL QUEST

09:56 09:55 09:54 The countdown ticked relentlessly before Patrick's eyes. His heart pounded against his chest. Failure: Death. The words refused to leave his mind. This wasn't a game. This wasn't some strange business competition. Death was a real possibility. The crimson eye watched him through the crack in reality. Unblinking. Patient. Hungry. Patrick swallowed hard. "What do I do?" Adrian stood in the center of the room, golden energy swirling around him. "Survive." Patrick almost laughed. "That's your advice?" The Gatekeeper didn't smile. "This is not a normal quest." The seriousness in his voice made Patrick's stomach tighten. Another impact struck the chamber. BOOM! More cracks spread across the walls. Red light poured into the room. The eye seemed larger now. Closer. Watching. Always watching. 08:47 08:46 08:45 A new notification appeared. --- Emergency Quest Updated Objective: Remain Alive Bonus Objective: Discover Why The Watcher Chose You Reward Increased --- Patrick frowned. Even the system wanted answers. That couldn't be a good sign. Suddenly, a memory flashed through his mind. The mysterious message. The invitation. The feeling that someone had been observing him long before tonight. "What if it didn't choose me tonight?" Adrian looked at him. "What?" Patrick's voice trembled. "What if it chose me a long time ago?" Silence filled the room. The Gatekeeper's face darkened. The possibility clearly worried him. Before he could respond, another explosion rocked the chamber. BOOM! This time part of the ceiling collapsed. Golden fragments scattered across the floor. The crack widened. A crimson beam shot through the opening. Patrick barely dodged. The beam struck the floor. Instantly, the stone dissolved into nothingness. Not broken. Not burned. Erased. Patrick stared in horror. One direct hit would kill him instantly. The countdown continued. 07:31 07:30 07:29 The Watcher's voice echoed through the chamber. "You carry the mark." Patrick froze. The mark? What mark? The crimson eye narrowed. "You do not remember." A strange pain suddenly exploded inside Patrick's head. Images flashed before his eyes. A dark room. A golden symbol. A child crying. A man screaming. Then darkness. The vision vanished. Patrick nearly collapsed. "What was that?" Adrian rushed toward him. "What did you see?" Patrick struggled to breathe. "I don't know." But deep down, he knew that wasn't entirely true. The images felt familiar. Too familiar. Like forgotten memories. The chamber shook again. The protective barriers were failing. 06:02 06:01 06:00 Halfway. Only halfway. Patrick's legs felt weak. Then another notification appeared. --- Hidden Talent Detected Conditions Met Unlock? YES --- Patrick didn't hesitate. YES. Golden light exploded around him. Energy surged through his body. Every muscle tightened. Every sense sharpened. He could hear Adrian's heartbeat. He could see tiny cracks spreading across distant walls. He could even feel the strange pressure radiating from the Watcher. The system window changed. --- Talent Unlocked Golden Instinct Rank: Unknown Description: Allows the user to sense danger and opportunities. --- Adrian's eyes widened. "Impossible." Patrick looked at him. "What now?" The Gatekeeper stared. "That talent shouldn't exist." Patrick was starting to hate hearing those words. Nothing seemed normal anymore. The Watcher suddenly became still. Completely still. The giant eye focused on Patrick. Then, for the first time, it showed emotion. Fear. Patrick blinked. Had the creature just become afraid? The crimson eye narrowed. The voice echoed once more. "The Golden Instinct..." Its tone sounded almost shocked. Then the eye moved closer. Much closer. "You truly survived." Patrick's blood ran cold. Survived what? Before he could ask, the countdown reached its final minute. 00:59 00:58 00:57 The chamber began collapsing completely. Golden barriers shattered. Walls cracked. Reality itself seemed unstable. Adrian grabbed Patrick's shoulder. "Whatever happens next, don't trust anyone." Patrick frowned. "What?" "Not participants." "Not Gatekeepers." "Not even the system." Patrick's eyes widened. "What are you talking about?" The Gatekeeper looked toward the Watcher. Then back at Patrick. For the first time, genuine concern appeared in his eyes. "Because if the legends are true..." He stopped. The countdown reached ten seconds. 10 9 8 7 Patrick's heart pounded. 6 5 4 The Watcher stared directly at him. 3 2 1 Quest Complete. The room exploded with golden light.
