POV: Nova
When we all arrive home, everyone climbs out of the car and looks at me expectantly. Before I can say a word, I hear Davis' stomach rumble. "Why don't we go get something to eat before I change Sebastian and Davis," I say, nervously. Everyone agrees so we head to the kitchen. Before we step into the house, I scent someone inside. I stop everyone and give a low growl. "Someone is inside," I say. I push the door open and creep silently toward the intruder. A small woman stands in front of the stove cooking. "Who are you?" I demand, scaring the woman. The woman spins around and instantly falls to the ground. "Queen Alpha, I am Nerissa. I was sent by Alpha Morian of the Grey Rock pack. I am to clean up around the house and cook for you. My daughter is somewhere around here playing," she rambles. I take a deep breath of relief and help the woman off the ground. "I am sorry for scaring you Nerissa. Please continue what you were doing," I tell her. She nods and turns back to the stove. "Lunch will be ready in just a moment. I made grilled cheese and tomato soup," she says.
My pack sits down and Nerissa brings out a plate with the grilled cheese and a pot of steaming soup. Nerissa goes to leave and I stop her. "Why don't you and your daughter come in and eat with us. I would love to get to know you and your daughter," I say. Nerissa nods and gives a sharp whistle. A little girl runs into the kitchen. "Queen Alpha, this is my daughter Melody. She has the gift of sight," Nerissa tells me. Melody looks around the room and she smiles at Davis. "Mama, After lunch can I play with the new boy? I'll finally have someone to play games with," She asks, tugging on her mothers dress. Nerissa chuckles. "We'll see. Queen Alpha still has to change him and mark him with the Shadow pack scent," she tells her daughter.
We all start eating once Melody and Nerissa are seated. "So, Nerissa, why did your alpha send you to me as a gift? Wouldn't he want to keep all of his pack with him?" I ask. Roman looks at me and chuckles. "All the alphas will be sending you gifts. The car that Alpha Elijah gave you was a gift. Nerissa and her daughter are a gift," he explains. I scoff. "Are you telling me that wolves are OK with human trafficking? That is pretty much what this is," I growl. Nerissa pats my hand. "I owed a debt that Alpha Morian thought would be best served as a maid here. My daughter just came as a bonus," she says. I look at her and frown. "I will not expect you to be a servant to this pack. You can move into one of the houses and start a new life here as part of my pack," I growl indignantly.
I stand up and storm off to my office. Roman follows me and grabs my arm. "Nova, please calm down. You should have been taught all of this before you became Queen Alpha. I promise to try to teach you as much as I know," he says, kissing me lightly. I sigh and open my mind link to Aymara. Will you bring Sebastian and Davis to my study? I will change them in there where it is more private. Soon enough I hear the three of them coming up the stairs. Sebastian pushes open the door and they all walk into the room. I stand up and look at Sebastian and Davis. "Are you sure you are ready to go through the change. You will go through extreme pain," I ask them both. They both nod. I step up to Davis and kneel before him. He reaches out his arm and I let Quinn take over partially. I feel my canines elongate so lean over and gently bite him. He screams and falls to the floor, writhing in pain. I stand up and move to Sebastian. He gives me his arm and I do the same thing. He falls to the ground and begins screaming.
I look away from the bodies on the ground until the screaming stops and two wolves stand before me. One as small as Bean. I touch their heads and take a deep breath. "I welcome you,Sebastian and Davis, to the Shadow pack. You may shift and go back to your loved ones," I say. Davis is the first to shift back and run to his sister to show off his wolf. Sebastian stays in his wolf form and whines. Roman laughs. "Of course he would get stuck. Sebastian you need to calm down and think of your human self. Call him back to the world from where ever your wolf buried him," he tells Sebastian's wolf. After about ten minutes, Sebastian stands before us in his human form again. "Sorry," he mumbles before running off to find Willow.
I slump down into my chair, suddenly fatigued. Roman rushes to my side. "Are you okay?" He asks, worry thick in his voice. I yawn. "Just really tired all of a sudden," I tell him. Roman scoops me up and carries me to the room where he wraps me up in the blanket and lays me down. "Sleep. I will be here when you wake up," he says, laying down next to me. I close my eyes and try to sleep but Quinn surfaces. You are strong. Many alphas can not do what you just did without instantly passing out. You changed two humans and marked them with Shadow pack scent and only feel tired. Nothing less from the Queen Alpha, she tells me. I roll over and look at Roman. He opens his eyes and gives me a mock scowl. "You should be sleeping. I won't go anywhere," he tells me, brushing his finger tips over my eyes. I yawn again and close my eyes, falling into a dreamless sleep.
