Markus started the long way back to town. While he was driving, his mind went over the last event with Richard.
He didn't understand why the man was acting like he did. It was almost as if he wished the pack to be taken over.
When he got back, he was going to have a long talk with him and straighten him out. This had to end.
Markus suspected Richard had a lot to do with the behaviour of the rest of the pack as well. Although he could be an arrogant b#st#rd at times, he was well loved in general. And he had an influence.
Thinking about it, it was no different at school. Markus thought Richard had spent more time in detention than behind his school desk, especially as he got a bit older.
He was also the most daring one, always ready for a good challenge and often winning it as well. And he was always in for a joke, just, often at the expense of another.
He could have made a great Gamma if he had just been a little less, ... Well, Richard.
And as it was, instead of using his skills for the better of the pack, he seemed to gloat every time a rogue attack came too close or we lost people during the fights. Markus really didn't know what his problem was. And today, when he threatened Barbara...
Markus' mind immediately switched over.
Who was she? He wanted to find out everything about her. Why was she picked as his mate?
He had so many questions to ask her, and things to tell her. But first, he had to take his time. Observe the situation before acting, his father would've said.
He drove back to the apartment block where Barbara lived, parked his car around the corner, and walked to the parking lot that he assumed belonged to the block.
After casually walking by every parked car, breathing in the smell, he came to the conclusion that none of them belonged to her.
Maybe she didn't own a car, he thought. Or maybe, she wasn't home.
Concern crept into his mind.
"Don't be a fool, Markus" he frowned to himself. "She's been fine thus far, no reason to assume otherwise now."
Nevertheless, he approached the door of the flat to see if there was a way in.
"Poor security," he thought to himself as he found the door unlocked and free for anyone to enter.
He walked in as if he had a good reason to be there, but he just as well shouldn't have bothered as almost no one was there, and the few that were, avoided eye contact and minded their own business.
Markus took the elevator to the fourth floor and quickly crossed the hall to Barbara's place. No sound was audible but the intensity of her smell reassured him she was there. It made his blood run to his d**k, he groaned silently.
He turned around and headed towards the elevator when one of the doors in the hall opened, and an elderly lady stepped out, ready to walk her dog.
Markus loved dogs.
They couldn't have them at the pack for obvious reasons, but he would never let a chance pass to steel a moment with someone else's.
He stepped in the elevator, together with the lady and her dog and immediately started petting it. "His name is Willy", the lady said with a smile. "Willy seems to be a very nice dog" Markus replied, scratching the dog behind the ears.
"O, he is" the lady beamed, "There's almost nobody he doesn't like".
After leaving the block, Markus decided to walk around and see if he could figure out Barbara's favourite places. He discovered the bakery she often visited, and what appeared to be her favourite bench at the park. Markus didn't particularly like the idea of his mate spending time alone on a bench in the park, exposed to all sorts of possible predators, and he had to remind himself that she was human and she didn't necessarily have to deal with predators on a daily basis. Unless you count the type of predators they encountered last night, of course. Napoleon growled at the memory of them. "Hush Napoleon," Markus said soothingly, "she's safe now."
A fair number of streets further away, Markus came to a bus stop where Barbara's smell was quite distinguishable from all the other smells around. He made a mental note of the bus schedule and was quite satisfied with what he had discovered this far.
He decided to go look for something to eat and book himself a room if he could find a hotel nearby. But not before he allowed himself one more check at Barbara's flat.
After some time, satisfied with the sound of TV and the smell of food mingled with her own delicious smell of rose and cinnamon coming in whiffs from behind the door, he set out to a small restaurant.
The food wasn't all that bad, and the owner was friendly enough to point out a small hotel nearby, of which he swore to anything Markus wanted him to, that it was the cleanest place in miles.
So he booked himself a room with a window that looked out in the direction of Barbara's flat. Even with his werewolf eyes, it was too far to see her, but he knew she was there. And that gave him some peace. It didn't help with the longing, though. He wanted to touch her, feel her body close to his. "Patience", he told himself. Napoleon did not agree.
After a check-in with the pack, where Moses assured him everything was under control, he finally allowed himself to relax.
As he thought of all the things he would buy her (she would at least need a car when she moved to the pack, and a new wardrobe more suitable for the outdoors, but also suitable for a Luna) he dosed off, his body eager to catch up on some much needed sleep.
Early in the morning, he woke up. It seemed quite cold outside, with a bit of frozen condense at the inside of his window. It didn't bother him, he loved the cold. He wondered if Barbara did as well.
He felt his body react to the thought of her and how she felt in his arms, allowing himself a few moments to enjoy the picture. As he was thinking about her and the glimpse of her breasts he caught, his d**k became hard and he couldn't stop from satisfying himself, thinking of how he would make her scream with pleasure soon. He c#me quickly, and although the pressure had lifted, the satisfaction was only technical. He needed her.
After a quick shower, he headed out to the flat again. Just like yesterday, he got in without a problem, eagerly crossing the hallway to her door, he felt nerves rushing over him. "This is it", he thought, braced himself and knocked on the door.
Silence.
Sniffing in the air, he realized she wasn't there. "F#ck" he thought, and bolted back to the elevator.
Going over the places he discovered yesterday, he decided to start at the bus stop.
As he sprinted towards the bus, he rounded the corner just in time to see the bus doors closing. But he could smell her.
He lifted his head, trying to determine where she was, as he saw her, sitting by the window of the departing bus.
The bond rolled over him like a wave and all he could do was stare at her. Her eyes were mesmerizing.
Napoleon howled in his head, trying to surface and run after it, stop it.
But instead Markus turned on his steps and bolted to his car. "F#ck" he thought again, now he'd have to search the whole bus line to find her.
After some time driving with the window open, he caught her sent in the air. He quickly parked and got out to try and find the source.
It seemed to be concentrated around some sort of shop. "She must be out shopping", he thought and approached the window.
Pearing in, he caught a glimpse of a few girls working there. As they saw him, they started talking amongst themselves, giggling. One of the girls, a good looking thing with curly hair, smiled at him with an inviting look on her face. He was used to that kind of situation. As he was not bad looking and an alpha, even human women tended to react to him. Although he wouldn't say no to an invite like this on occasion, for the moment he couldn't care less.
Suddenly, the girls looked a bit guilty as they started to turn around.
Barbara came up behind them with a semi stern face and said something to them, after which the girls hurried back to their posts.
Markus was shocked. "She works here?"
