Barbara looked up at the man in front of her. "Damned, he is tall", she thought. She barely reached up to his chin.
She had to crack her neck to be able to look at him properly.
"Did he just call me my love?" she thought.
The man took her elbow, looking at her concerned. He repeated: "Are you ok?" At least this time he had the decency not to call her his love.
Barbara, taken aback by the intenseness of his stare, took a step back.
"Erm, yes. I am, thank you. Sorry for bumping into you like that." He didn't let go of her elbow, though.
"It was my pleasure", he replied, looking her dead in the eye. He gave her the shiveres.
"Right, well, I, erm, I have to catch my bus now. Sorry again." She said and started to turn away from him.
Markus couldn't bear it.
He held tight to the elbow he was already holding and said: "Don't take the bus. I'll drive you home."
Barbara felt invaded. There was no way she was getting into a car with this man.
To make matters worse, she could see her bus approaching the stop.
"Listen", she said. "There's no need, I'm absolutely fine. I'm going to go now, goodbye." She tried to get her arm free, but the man wouldn't let go.
"Sh#t", she thought. How was she going to get out of this? She looked around for help, but the place was already deserted. Her colleagues were long gone, and she was the only one taking the bus.
She looked back at the man, ready to put up a fight (although chances were slim, judging by the size of him), when she heard a voice saying: "You should trust him".
Relieved at the sound of another voice, she looked around. But there was no-one. Just the man and her.
Markus saw a range of emotions passing over Barbara's face.
First he saw fear. It broke his heart. Why would she be afraid of him? He would give his life to protect her, keep her from harm.
But she couldn't know that, could she? She didn't feel the bond like he did.
After that, she seemed surprised, as if she heard something. Finally, she looked back up at him, but he couldn't quite place the emotion on her face.
Goddess, she was so beautiful.
Barbara felt confused. Who spoke to her? It was definitely not the man. She looked back at him as his emotions seemed to switch from intense sad, to intense demanding.
"Let me introduce myself" she heard him say.
At that moment, the bus passed the stop. Barbara let out a sigh, "F#ck" she thought. "How am I going to get home now?"
"Fine" she said in her annoying customer voice. "You can start by letting me go."
The man looked at her with a smile, let go of her arm and said: "I am Markus, alpha of the Gray Moon Pack. It is my absolute pleasure to meet you, Luna Barbara." And to Barbara's utter astonishment, he bowed.
"Luna Barbara? Markus Alpha? From Greymoon Lake?" She didn't know that place, but that probably just meant it wasn't too close to her place.
"Hello" she said, "I'm Barbara, not Luna".
"I know" he said. " May I escort you to my car?"
"Trust him". Again that voice.
Barbara hesitated. She looked him in the eyes, searching for an answer. "Can I trust you?" She thought. As if he heard her thoughts, he looked down on her with a soft smile and said: "You can trust me. I would defend you with my life."
Something in the way he looked at her made her heart jump. She wasn't particularly looking forward to another two hours of waiting for the next bus. D#mned this public transport. She sighed " OK, let's go".
Markus was relieved. " She's starting to trust me", he thought. And happily led the way to his car.
The car itself was huge, some sort of big shot edition of an SUV. Barbara didn't know too much about cars, but she knew that the brand was expensive in such a way that if she sold everything she owned, she wouldn't even have enough for the first down payment.
When Markus opened the door to her, she could see that the interior breathed luxury. The seat was as comfortable as a bed and the car smelled amazing.
Markus started the car. "Please use your seatbelt ", he said.
"Right" Barbara said, slightly surprised by his authoritative tone, " I'll give you the address."
"No need", Marcus replied. "I know where it is".
"How did he know where I live? Had this man been following her?" She tough. "And come to think of it, how did he know my name?" She started to feel uneasy. Could she make it if she jumped out?
Markus could feel her unease rising again. From the corner of his eye, he saw Barbara glancing from him to the door.
"It's unlocked, but I wouldn't recommend jumping out. The car is rather high."
Barbara felt caught. "Would you care to elaborate on how you know my name and where I live", she asked, while trying to keep her voice steady. "Never show them you're afraid", She remembered her grandfather telling her over and over again when she was little and afraid of the monsters in her closet. So she straightened her back and lifted her chin.
Markus glanced at her, quickly returning his eyes to the road.
After a moment he said:" Barbara, my Beta and I rescued you two nights ago while you were being attacked behind a bar. We found your address on a bus pass and brought you home."
"The night she didn't remember," Barbara turned pale.
"We usually don't meddle too much with human affairs ", Markus continued, " But I discovered that you are my true mate, so I had to, you see?"
"Human affairs, what?" Barbara was confused. "What does he mean, a true mate?"
"Erm, no. I'm afraid I don't see".
Markus took a deep breath and said: "We werewolves only have one true mate in our life. And you are that mate for me. Seeing I'm the alpha of my pack, you are the Luna, the Queen."
Barbara looked at him with her mouth open.
"Great" she thought. "I'm stuck in a car with a lunatic."
She should feel more afraid.
