A REQUEST

KARA Everything felt like a blur after that day. I wasn’t allowed to go back to the house and haven’t seen my sister for almost a week now. Fortunately, they still let me call her, but even that was limited. I wasn’t bound, but I’m no different from a prisoner. They were all preparing for the wedding, and as expected, I barely saw Alpha Dominic around. Until now. “Weddings are mostly candid; what we say as vows usually comes from the heart. However, since this was an arranged marriage, we were expected to rehearse the lines to one another. “.... to put my alpha and the pack before me.” I ended the vows that I had easily memorized since yesterday. It was mundane, full of words everyone in the pack would know I couldn’t fulfill even if I meant it. “We’re done here,” he suddenly declared and pulled me away. I didn’t resist, but I heard the opposition of one of our elders. Dominic turned to him, wearing a glare that could kill anyone. “We’re done here. Don’t make me repeat myself again.” His voice oozed authority, never failing to send shivers down my spine. My wolf had been whimpering since earlier because Dominic’s wolf never responded. I think he really doesn’t feel the bond, and I don’t have any intentions of revealing it to anyone. Maybe it was the goddess’s mercy to me. “I apologize, alpha. It won’t happen again.” He didn’t bother answering and pulled me away again. I had to walk faster to compensate for his huge steps, or I would surely trip. We reached the pack house, and everyone casually made way for us. No one dared to question him while my wolf was still hopelessly trying to connect with our mate. It hurts every single time, but this is my life now. Alpha Dominic took me to what I think was his room. His scent filled my senses, making me fuzzy in an odd way. I lightly shook my head. I can’t think about that right now. He faced me, and I felt myself backing away instinctively. He was upset, but I didn’t know why. “What are you?” he suddenly asked, which had me taken aback. I took a deep breath and replied, “I’m an omega who was tasked to marry you for the pack, alpha.” It was what they have been telling me for a week now. They can’t accept that an omega would be married to their alpha, but no one wants to do it, so they can’t really argue. I’m not sure if that’s what he wanted to hear, but I already said it without thinking much. There was no turning back. “Isn’t that what you wanted to hear?” I asked after feeling his aura darken. Maybe it was the bond or my brain simply helping me cope, but I don’t feel fear as much as I should right now. “I asked, what are you?” He repeated the question, but I still can’t figure out what he wanted me to say. He suddenly inched closer to me, making me back away, but Dominic pulled me close, making me gasp in surprise. It wasn’t my first time being this close to him, but this was the first time I had the chance to look at him thoroughly with a sound mind. I reached for his mask just because I had the urge to do so, but he suddenly grabbed my hand before I could even get close. “I apologize, alpha.” I backed away almost immediately. What was I thinking? He scoffed, “You’re just like everybody else, wanting to see what’s behind this mask and how much of a monster I am.” There was a hint of pain in his voice, which also pained me. I can’t blame him. Insecurity can kill even the strongest warrior. I slowly shook my head. “You don’t become a monster just because everyone calls you one. It isn’t your physical appearance, either. It’s the actions that make one a monster.” I might be stubborn, but I won’t dare to talk to an alpha like that. Apparently, my brain doesn’t perceive fear easily for the past week. Maybe it was a coping mechanism. Either that or I had already lost my mind. He grinned, “Really now. What does an omega like you know?” “I might be an omega, and I might be physically weak, but that doesn’t incapacitate my mind. So please, don’t judge me because of my status. Like I said, actions make one a monster.” I was dying inside. I’m talking back to my alpha. I’ll be lucky if I live to see the sun tomorrow, but I can’t let myself be trampled again and again. If I die, at least I’ll die with my honor still intact. “Say that after you see the real me. We’re going to be together for a while, might as well let you see in advance.” There was certainty in his voice as if he had already seen this so many times. My heart skipped a beat with his response. He didn’t hesitate and removed his mask. It dropped to the ground, but his eyes never left mine. He wanted to see my reaction. The covered part of his face had black patterned marks from his forehead down to his chin. It looked like letters from an unknown language, but I couldn’t be sure. All I know is that they were patterned marks, but it wasn’t what made it different. Just looking at the marks sent a shiver down my spine. They screamed danger, something ancient that brought haywire to my senses. It was probably why they were calling him a monster, but I don’t think he wished for this to happen to himself. It might be the curse they were all talking about. Whatever it is, my point still stands. I extended my hand and touched his face. This time, he let me. “I’m not hurting you, am I?” “No, but you’re baffling me. What are you?” Alpha Dominic asked the question again. My wolf howled, trying to reach for his wolf for the nth time, and still failed miserably. This time, it was pleading with me to tell him the truth, but would he even believe me when his wolf didn’t even respond to mine? I know that this was just an arrangement, nothing but our responsibilities to the pack. It shouldn’t be that deep… except that every time I looked at him, a part of me wanted to try hard for this to work out. I smiled even though I felt suffocated from all the mixed feelings bombarding my mind and heart. “I’m an omega that was tasked to marry you, alpha,” I repeated the exact same thing that I had said earlier. I thought he would leave me alone, but he suddenly inched closer and kissed me. My whole being heated up after his gesture. His lips were softer than I thought, but his actions were rough. Dominic effortlessly lifted me to compensate for our height difference. I clung to his neck, my arms wrapped tightly, afraid of falling, but he held me securely. He let out a growl. His eyes glimmered, showing how his control was slightly slipping. “You’re right. That’s who you are, and that’s what we are. Nothing less. Nothing more.” I responded to his every touch, his every kiss, without regard for what would happen. He was right, after all. Maybe if I just kept quiet about the bond and let this pass, I would be able to go back to my old life. He pinned me against the wall while his hands never got tired of exploring my body. I gripped his hair, realizing I might have scratched him at some point, but it didn’t deter him. My blouse hung open, and I couldn’t fathom how he unclasped my bra, but he managed to do so. “Ah…” I bit my lip, trying to stifle a groan of pleasure, but failed miserably. My entire body craved his touch, and my mind was clouded. I don’t know if this is the right thing to do, but all the care I had was thrown out the window the moment he kissed me. I just want Alpha Dominic. My hand flapped in desperation, trying to grab onto something. Startled, I knocked over one of the displays in his room. It ended up on the ground with his mask, but fortunately, it didn’t shatter. “I’m sorry…” I mumbled, out of breath, struggling to stand on my own. He didn’t even bother sparing a glance. “Leave it.” Dominic suddenly lifted me again. “Wait—” I gasped, with the few seconds I had before I landed perfectly on the bed. He loomed over me, pinning me completely. His hand cupped my breast while his kisses trailed down my neck. My eyes widened as I realized his intentions. It cleared my mind, and I managed to push him, though my strength barely budged him away from my neck. His eyes glowed, fangs protracted, and he was very close to shifting. He meant to mark me, sealing a bond we couldn’t easily break if he did. “Please don’t mark me. That’s all I ask. I won’t ask for anything else. I promise,” I mumbled. I saw betrayal in his eyes, but it quickly disappeared. He cupped my face, “Why do you think you can order me around?” I pressed my lips together, “I… I just want to leave something for myself. Other than that, I’ll do anything you ask me to. Please, alpha.” Dominic doesn’t feel the bond, so I assume he wouldn’t sense my emotions as fated pairs should. I prayed he wouldn’t see through my lies and would simply agree, uncertain of the consequences if he marked me. His eyes returned to normal, and he quickly got up, took a shirt from his closet, and tossed it beside me. I looked down and quickly attempted to cover myself up after seeing my condition. Half of the buttons of my blouse were missing, and I don’t think what was left was enough to cover me up. “I’ll grant your request, but don’t ever expect that I’ll do any favors to you ever again. Use that and leave.” I quickly did as he told me. “Thank you, alpha.”
