“Your voice seems different. Lianne, are you okay? Be honest with me.” I quickly asked Lianne after noticing that my sister’s voice was hoarse.
She hummed in response. “I’m okay, but I’m sad and I miss you. A-are you still coming back, Kara?”
My heart sank hearing her question. I did my best not to cry because she would surely know.
“Of course, I’ll be back, and when I do, we’ll never be apart again. I promise.” My voice trembled as I let out another promise. I meant to keep it. I really do, but the circumstances as of lately only make my hope lie lower than I already do.
There was silence on the other line. I thought our call had been cut off, but it was still on when I checked.
