BRYCE MOVED TO THE COUCH next to Belle. He had just shifted Her Lightness on his lap when the phone in his pocket vibrated. She said, ‘My other condition to world peace is put the damn phone back to ringing.’ He fished out the phone from his left pocket. It was the black phone. She didn’t need to be asked; she left him to it and padded out to the kitchen of their rented cabin, so-called “deluxe” villa, which depends of course on one’s definition of deluxe.
