The word talents hung in the heavy, electric air between them, tasting like smoke and danger. Aria stared up at the towering Alpha, her mind racing to process every syllable he had just uttered. A proposition? From the most feared werewolf in the region? It sounded less like an escape route and more like walking straight into the jaws of a beast she could never hope to tame.
"My talents?" Aria repeated, her voice laced with sharp skepticism as she crossed her arms over her chest, keeping her guard fully up. "I am a thief, Damon. I break into places I shouldn't be and take things that aren't mine. Unless your pack has a sudden shortage of shiny objects, I don't see how I could possibly be of any use to an Alpha."
Damon didn't flinch at her use of his first name. Instead, a slow, predatory smile touched the corners of his lips, making him look even more dangerous than before. He shifted his weight, resting one large hand against the stone pillar right beside her head, effectively caging her in once more. The raw, wood-and-smoke scent of him filled her senses, making her pulse spike annoyingly against her will.
"A common thief doesn't bypass the arcane wards of the Bloodmoon archive without triggering a single magical tripwire," Damon murmured, his amber eyes dropping to study her with intense calculation. "You didn't just pick a lock, Aria. You slipped through the ancestral security grids like a phantom. And as it happens, someone has been systematically infiltrating our allied territories, stealing classified high-level intel and mystical artifacts right out from under my sentinels' noses—leaving behind no trace, except for a signature style that looks suspiciously like yours."
Aria's eyes widened fractionally. For a brief second, genuine surprise flickered across her face before she quickly masked it with a cold, defensive glare. "If you think I'm working for some rival syndicate or spying on your precious pack, you're dead wrong. I work alone, and I only care about surviving."
"I know you work alone," Damon replied smoothly, his gaze never leaving hers. "Which is precisely why you're going to help me find out who is framing you—or using your exact methods to undermine my authority. They are hitting my inner vaults, stealing weapons and ancient documents that could destabilize the entire region. Help me track them down, use your little underworld connections to find the buyer, and recover what was stolen... and not only will I let you keep the Silver Moon Relic to save your brother, but I will also grant you full pack immunity."
The offer hit her like a physical blow. Full pack immunity and the relic to cure her brother—it was everything she had dreamed of, handed to her on a silver platter by the very monster holding her captive. But she wasn't foolish enough to think a deal with an Alpha came without strings.
"And what's the catch?" Aria asked suspiciously, narrowing her eyes. "Pack leaders like you don't offer immunity out of the goodness of your cold hearts. What do you want from me in return for your absolute protection?"
Damon’s expression hardened, the playful amusement vanishing from his face, replaced by a dark, possessive intensity that made the hair on the back of her neck stand up. He leaned down, his warm breath ghosting across her ear as his fingers lightly traced the line of her jaw.
"Until this is over, you don't leave my sight," Damon whispered, his voice a low, commanding growl that vibrated straight through her soul. "You stay under my roof, under my protection, and bound to my side as my personal guest—or my captive, depending entirely on how cooperative you choose to be. Deal?"
