CHAPTER 5

after dinner, Joan's grandfather invited Zain and his grandfather to stay over till the next day and they agreed.

Zain and his grandfather each took a guest room, and Zain's room happened to be close to Joan's room.

_ of course his room will be close to my own, I must say grandfather is really scheming.

in my time a man and a woman who are not in a relationship should not even be seen together but now It looks like it's not a big deal _ Joan thought when she saw Zain coming out of the the room beside hers .

it was not yet time for bed and so the two old men decided that they should all play a game in the sitting room.

" so, what game should we play" Joan's grandfather asked. " let's play chess" grandfather Kudo suggested immediately before anyone could say anything. " ok, then it's settled" her grandfather said not giving Zain and Joan an opportunity make their own suggestions. _ if you guys already decided what you want us to play, then why did you ask us_ Joann thought.

" Joan and Zain, you guys will play against each other first" Joan's grandfather said

Joan's grandfather specifically picked chess because he knew Joan was not very good at it and his friend told him that Zain was excellent at it, so he wanted Joan to be impressed when she sees how well Zain plays

" ok" Joan and Zain said together, they both say down opposite each other and a chess board was placed on the small table between them.

Joan used the white while Zain used the black. Zain told Joan to play first and she did.

after 5 moves each things still didn't go as expected because Joan was not loosing the game.

_ when did Joan become good at playing chess_ Joan's grandfather thought

" you are really good at playing chess" Zain said , he had very sharp instincts and his instinct told him that she was really good at chess, and she might even be better than him.

Meanwhile, Joan was thinking of loosing the game purposely because from her memories the real Joan was not really good at chess so if she suddenly became good at it , her grandfather might become suspicious, but she decided not to loose.

because of the fact that she was once a general she knew how to carefully strategize and analyze situations so this game was a piece of cake for her .

by the time they had exchanged about 10 moves each they both had serious expressions on their faces. the two old men were dumbfounded as they watched the game. they felt that if any of them were playing with either Zain or Joan on this level they would have lost long ago, because this he was filled with traps and ambushes.

just as you think that someone is about to win , there will be a trap that will change the whole game.

In the end Joan won the game which shocked the old men.

" Joan my dear, how did you become so good at chess " Joan's grandfather asked trying to sound as normal as possible.

" I practiced really hard, that's all" she said, not knowing any other excuse to give.

" it was really nice playing with you, I had so much fun" Zain said " maybe we could have a rematch sometime" he added " ok, you can tell me when ever you are ready, but remember I'll still beat you" she said and he could hear the pride laced in her voice. " then I'll make sure to put more effort next time, so you can't beat me " he said plainly but Joan could understand that it was a challenge

After watching the youngsters match the two old men did not want to play , they thought that their match could not even compare to that of Zain and Joan. but still Joan insisted that they play and they played that game which grandfather Kudo won.

by the time the four of them were done playing chess, it was already past bedtime and so they all went to their various rooms to turn in for the night.

That night while when she was sleeping a figure ran past her window, she abruptly opened her eyes , even though she was sleeping she was still aware of her surroundings.ahe stood up from her bed and walked over to the window, she opened it and looked outside but she saw nothing.

w that there was someone there but she just closed the window and pretended to go back to he bed.

Meanwhile " phew, it good she did not catch me, but how did she notice that I was here, isn't she supposed to be asleep". the figure in black cloth outside Joan's window said in a whisper. he went over to the window next to Joan's and knocked with a special pattern. the window opened after some seconds and the black clothed figure entered.

" sir, I have news for you " the figure said after entering the room. the person he was talking to was non other that Zain. " tell me Dimitri, I'm listening" Zain answered after sitting back down on his bed. "sir people from falcon corps have started moving against us should we strike back now" Dimitri said with his head bowed " do you mean that after our clear warning they still dare to go against us" Zain asked Dimitri. " it looks like we no longer have to give them face, I want you to wipe them out, I do not want to hear about the existence of falcon corps again" he said expressionlessly. he was not some one who spared people, he was known to be very decisive and ruthless even in the black market association.

Zain was in the black market association which was a global association, he was one of the main bosses. There were 7 main bosses in the entire black market, they all had their code name, his code name was scorpion. the code names of the other 6 were Tiger, Panther, Eagle , Shark, Phoenix and Croc. their real identities were a secret because they always wore masks.

" yes sir I'll do that immediately" dimitri answered. " sir" Dimitri called " is there any other thing " Zain answered. " sir please if you don't mind me asking, why are you staying here, you know that if you tell your grandfather that you don't like miss Joan he will not force you to get together with her" Dimitri asked not knowing why Zain would pretend as if he liked miss Joan, he had been working for Zain for a very long time and he knows that Zain does not like associating with women, but now he did not make any objections when his grandfather was trying to get him and Joan together, and that made him a little confused.

" well Dimitri, you can say that I am curious about her " Zain answered Dimitri and then lay down on the bed . Dimitri took the cue and stopped asking questions, " ok sir, I'll be going then" Dimitri said and when he received no response from Zain he turned to the window and left.

As Dimitri passed by Joan's room again he stopped and looked for a second and then he left. meanwhile in Zain's room, he was lying on the bed with his eyes closed thinking about the question that Dimitri asked him but after some time he shrugged it off and went to sleep.
