“Not even Daddy or Charlie or Elliott. Nobody. Nobody in your class at school, at church, not your teachers, not your friends, nobody at all, ever.”
“Are you a para?”
She nodded. “The right word is fairy, and I’m a half-fairy. A hybrid. So are you and the twins. Quarter-fey.”
Hybrids are made by a very evil act.
“Am I going to glow?” Am I evil and sick and dirty? Does God hate me? Will he send me to Hell?
“I don’t know, and I won’t know for a long time. I hope not. Maybe. There are things we can do to make the glowing stop. I can sometimes see the fey light in your eyes, but usually only another fairy can see that. For now, you just have to keep what you saw a complete secret. That’s very important. Do you understand?”
