GABRIEL Leaving Alex in a huff was almost too easy. "You'll get it when you get it," I tossed over my shoulder, already bored of the conversation. The look on his face? Priceless. I headed back to the hotel I had booked in the wolves territory, a place that screamed 'temporary' just as loudly as I felt it. My room was at the end of a too-long hallway, the kind where you half expect something to jump out at you. Nothing did, of course. I’m not in some cheap thriller. No sooner had I flopped onto the bed, contemplating the twisted web I was weaving, than a knock sounded. Predictable. It was Lilya. She always had a knack for showing up uninvited but not unwelcome. She swanned in, no permission needed, her eyes gleaming with that 'tell me everything' look. “So, it’s all going smoothly?”
