"If they have a book detailing future events, don't they already control the flow of time?"
"From what I've gathered, the knowledge in their possession is one about a closed time loop. You see, 'The First Traveller' has experienced a thousand lifetimes in this loop. He has experienced the same things over and over again, any attempt to change the timeline only fulfills it.
