Rising Like A Phoenix

Chapter 1

Maya’s P. O. V

“You are not worthy to be called the boss of The Sapphire Syndicate, Maya,… you never were. Can you hear me? My dear wife!” The voice which have never failed to enchant me before, appeared the cruelest to my ears all of a sudden.

My body was brutally wounded and I was lying on the floor. It seemed that I may never be able to stand up ever again in my life if I stay alive by any chance, tonight. The blood kept oozing out of my vessels without any stop only to get my body covered with the crimson fluid menacingly. My bones were broken into pieces already while the deadly pain was all that I could feel right at this moment.

And the worst thing was that I could not even fight back for my life this time, as I was drugged by my own husband Xavier. He could do this to me only because I trusted him. And that is why I am like this now.

I do not know how long I can stay alive to watch him coming out of his mask bit by bit as he kept standing right before my eyes with the vicious grin on his face and looked down upon me with such a hateful eyes which I have never seen before, not until this moment.

“You were a fool to believe that we love you. But I can not deny the fact that it did help us a lot to take you down or else how could I have faced my boss.

It always should be The White Panthers mafia group, which must be the number one in this underworld society, not The Sapphire Syndicate.” Xavier uttered with absolute disgust and in no time his brutal kick landed on my already broken ribs with such a great force that it became quite hard for me to keep breathing to keep myself alive, so that I could hear him till the very end.

The room which was dark until now, started to brighten up all of a sudden and it did not take much time for me to realise that the villa had been set on fire and the massive blaze had started to take actions already, by burning each and every single thing down into ashes, from which I might not be spared as well.

From the darkest corner of the room, another voice came to my ears in no time, and it was only then I realised that Xavier was not alone in this whole plan of wiping my name out of this mafia world, once and for all.

And what took me more by surprise was the fact that the voice indeed sounded so very familiar to me. Even if I still did not want to believe but I could clearly tell to whom it belongs without even looking at that person’s face. Cause, it surely belonged to the one whom I raised as my own from a very early age. So, it is more than impossible for me to forget such voice.

Even before the figure came out from the darkness to stand beside Xavier where the light from the already burning villa fell on both of them, making their faces visible for me even in this dark room, I knew who it was.

Zoe.

It was no one but Zoe…my one and only sister.

No!!! Actually, she is my step sister!

“Did you hear him, sis? He hates you so much, and so do I.

You say that you love me but I can clearly see how you have never stopped pitying me since my Mom died. As if I was your pet whom you could raise. Even Dad have never tried to stop you cause you were his dearest daughter, of course. Is this not why he had left the entire inheritance of The Sapphire Syndicate solely to you, his dear elder daughter, and left me not a single penny, as if I was nothing to him at all, except for some filthy trash whom he had once picked up from the streets.

Tell me, what have I done wrong to receive such humiliation from you all, when you knew it very well that I have the equal rights as you to become the heir of The Sapphire Syndicate mafia clan, cause I too am his own blood, just like you, Maya.

But why it was always me who kept getting neglected by all?

You always claimed that you loved me but where was your love when you decided to marry Xavier without even considering the fact that I was in love with him as well, even before you fell for him.” Zoe paused for some seconds only to glare down at me as if she was pleased to see that she was finally able to turn the table to her side at last, even when it caused her to get her hands tainted by the bloods of her sister.

Taking in a deep breath of relief, she blurted out the very words which she was keeping inside her from how long I did not even know,

“You should die, Maya. Only if you die, I and Xavier could start a fresh, cause I am already pregnant with his child.” Zoe kept on saying further, but it was just that I could hear her no more. As if everything which I happened to believe in back in the past, started to fade away bit by bit only to make me realise how fake they were.

I kept lying on the floor while Xavier, my husband, did not stop kicking my already disfigured body ever so brutally, but the pain was like nothing in comparison to what I have felt after realising that the ones whom I have always considered as my own, did stab me from the back without even giving me any chance to scream out in utter pain.

How ruthless love could be?

I did not know when exactly my men came to this villa to look for me, as the sound of the chaos did not fail to fall on my ears from somewhere outside this store room, but only if they could guess where I am right now.

Even though I could not let my voice out to make my men know where I was, their noises did make Xavier and Zoe alert as they did not wait for long to torture me further and rushed out of this room only to put on an well scripted act, so that they could execute their master plan of killing me tonight.
