their house is almost at the end to the village and closed to the river, so no one could hear them when they always beat Chioma because the closest house is miles away. this is the advantage that rosemary and her children has, they always use this opportunity to do anything to Chioma without the villagers finding out and they are not afraid that Chioma will report them because they have her under their control.

After the mother and daughters finished very their anger and jealousy, they asked Chioma to prepare dinner, then they went inside.

Chioma stop up from the ground, some broom stick was still struck on her skin, she pick it out, the pain is every much that tears roll down her eyes, when her stepmother and sisters beats her, they always avoid her face and hit were could be covered with clothes, if not the villagers that pass to go to the river would have noticed something wrong, Chioma heaved a sigh of relief, thank God that the face is not injured if it is, she will not be able to meet Emeka the following day and will have to miss the surprise he said he has for her.

Chioma prepare dinner and went to her room after she finished her night duties, she was looking forward to tomorrow because her mind was somewhere else, Chioma did not feel too much pain and sleep peacefully.

When Emeka chased after Chioma, he happened to hear and see everything that happened, he wanted to forward and help her but he was stopped by Ayo.

“ prince, this servant will not talk to you as a friend but a servant, if you reveal your identity now, it will be dangerous to return to the palace tomorrow when the news spread and it might put miss in danger.” Ayo said, he heaved a sigh, he never would have thought that behind that smiling face of miss, there will be such a thing like this. from the look of calmness in her face, it must be going on for a long time now

Emeka was very angry, he knows that what Ayo said was right, he would put himself and Chioma in danger, they are many people who wants to assassinate him but he always suppressed them with the royal guard and any that Is disobedient would be kill but he did not take any guards with him here except Ayo, He looked at them as they beat her and when Chioma stood up crying, he decided to make them pay. he felt his heart been cut from inside, he could no longer watch.

“ let's go back to the palace tonight ” Emeka said.

“ But prince what about the surprise you promise miss ” Ayo ask confused, he did not why Emeka suddenly decided to go back to the palace after he was preparing to ask for Chioma's hand in marriage tomorrow.

“ don't ask too much questions, if you don't want to go , you can retire and stay here ”. Emeka said and start to walk away, Ayo quickly followed, what a joke, he is still young to retire.

Early in the next morning, Chioma wake up, she felt pain all over her body but when she think of the surprise Emeka has fro her, she stood up, she quickly finished her morning duties and went to the farm to pick some vegetables, she want to cook some vegetables soup for Emeka.

After she finished cooking, Chioma went to the river to fetch water and also take her bath, there appointment was on two PM in the afternoon, at one-thirty PM, Chioma finish dressing up and Rosemary that she was going to the farm, Rosemary did not think much because she thinks that after beating her yesterday, she would dare not near that beggar anymore.

Chioma first walked to the farm, incase someone was following her like yesterday but when she saw no one following her, she sneak to her and Emeka spot close to the farm, she spread cloth on the ground and set up the food and sit down and wait for Emeka to come.

But after waiting for two hours, Emeka was nowhere to be seen, Chioma felt that this is not his style, Emeka always come before her but now after two hours he is not still hers, she thought that this is among the game Emeka was playing today but after waiting for another hour, Emeka is still not here, she decided to go to the spot near the river to see if he can find Emeka or Ayo.

But she end up being disappointed, he was not there so is Ayo, Chioma continue to look for Emeka, she thought maybe he is in danger or something but she could not find him after searching for five hours, she even went to small hut he and Ayo stay together, there were not there, the place was empty. chioma decided to go home and continue looking for him tomorrow.
