As they settled into Amanda’s apartment, Anna felt a sense of temporary relief. She collapsed onto the couch with exhaustion etched on her face.
Amanda brought her a cup of tea and sat beside her. “You’re safe now, Anna. You can stay her for as long as you need.”
Meanwhile, Liam paced back and forth in his dimly lit apartment, his anger simmering. He dialed Anna’s number again, but it kept moving to voice mail. His texts remained unanswered too.
As Anna tried to rest at Amanda’s place, she couldn’t shake off the feeling of being watched. She glanced out the window, noticing a figure lingering across the street…
Liam stood under the streetlight; his eyes fixed on Amanda’s apartment building. His gaze seemed to bore into Anna’s very soul, even though she couldn’t see him.
As days passed, Anna’s nightmares intensified. She’d wake up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat, with Liam’s menacing figure etched in her mind. Amanda tried to comfort her, but Anna couldn’t shake off the feeling of being haunted.
One night, she couldn’t take it anymore. She slipped out of Amanda’s apartment, needing some fresh air to clear her head. The cool night breeze hit her like a slap in the face, but it didn’t calm her racing thoughts.
As she walked down the streets, lost in her thoughts, she heard a voice behind her…
“Anna”.
Anna’s heart skipped a beat as she turned around to face Liam. Their eyes locked, and for a moment, time stood still…
Anna’s instincts screamed at her to run, but her feet seemed rooted to the spot. Liam’s eyes, once filled with passion and adoration, now burned with an unnerving intensity.
“Anna, why are you avoiding me?” Liam’s voice was low and husky, but it sent shivers down her spine.
Anna tried to sound calm, but her voice trembled. “I need space, Liam. I need to protect myself from you.”
Liam took a step closer, his eyes never leaving hers. “Protect yourself? From me? Anna, I love you. I’d never hurt you.”
Anna laughed, a bitter sound. “Love? You call this love? You’ve stalking me for days, Liam. But Liam had a bit of confusion on his face “What are you talking about Anna”
Anna didn’t care about what he said, because she felt he was pretending. “that’s not love”.
Liam’s expression twisted and for a moment, Anna saw a glimmer of the man she once knew. The man she loved.
“Anna I’m sorry,” Liam said, his voice cracking.
Anna’s voice trembled, “you almost chocked me to death the other day at your house. Why would you do that?”
Lim’s expression faltered, and he looked like he’d been punched in the gut. Anna I never meant to hurt you. I was just…. Consumed.”
Anna’s eyes narrowed with her anger boiling over. “Consumed? You were consumed by your ego and possessiveness.”
Liam paused etching for understanding. “Can we talk somewhere private?”.
Anna shook her head, her voice firm “no, I’m not sitting with you. I’m not talking to you.”
As she turned to walk away, Liam hastily grabbed her hand. “Where do you think you are going?” he asked, his grip tight.
Anna tried to shake him off, but Liam’s hold only tightened. She felt a surge o panic, her heart racing with fear.
“Let me go, Liam,” she said, her voice low and even.
But Liam just pulled her closer, his eyes burning with an intensity that made Anna’s skin crawl…
Anna’s eyes flashed with anger as she confronted Liam. “You hurt me in a way that was terrible, Anna. I met you at the art gallery Anna and you were the most beautiful thing I had ever came across, your personality, everything made me smile.”
Liam’s voice laced with pain. “And anna, what did you do? You used me to heal over Alex. Isn’t that insane? You came to me; I fell for you and you used me as a pawn in your game of revenge with Alex.”
Anna’s face twisted in defensiveness. “How dare you! You’re one to talk about being used, when you’ve been stalking me, harassing me….
Liam’s emotions got twisted, he cut her off his voice dripping with accusation. “What happened to your greed and selfishness, Anna? You wanted revenge and came to me like you loved me, you shouldn’t let your desire consume you.
Anna’s eyes began to falter and for a moment she saw the truth in Liam’s words. She had been selfish, using Liam to get over Alex. But her pride wouldn’t let her admit it.
With the surge of anger, Anna yanked her hand out of Liam’s grasp and turned to walk away. “I’m not listening to this”, she said, her voice cold.
Liam stood still with his hands in his pockets, watching Anna Walk away. He breathed in and out, his expression unreadable.
As Anna walked away, Liam’s eyes followed her, his gaze piercing through the darkness. He didn’t move, didn’t call out to her. He just stood there, his hands in his pockets, his expression a mask of calmness.
Anna’s anger fuels her steps, but as she walked, she couldn’t shake off the felling that Liam’s words had struck a chord. She had used him, hadn’t she? I mean she knew deep down that she was guilty of this. She let her desire for revenge consume her.
The city lights blurred as Anna walked, her mind racing with thoughts and emotions. She didn’t notice the tears streaming down her face until she stumbled upon a quiet alleyway.
There, she let out a sob, the sound echoing off the walls. She leaned against the wall, her body shaking with emotions.
Liam’s words were put on repeat in her mind. The truth hurt, and Anna couldn’t deny it. She had been selfish, and now she was paying the price.
As she stood there, lost in her thoughts, Anna realized where she was and wiped her eyes, lifting her head up she saw a familiar shadow. The streetlights cast long shadows, and Anna’s heart skipped a beat. She quickened her pace but the feeling persisted. She couldn’t see the figure clearly but she could sense his presence.
Anna fled as fast as she could.
