Moving On

The next morning I got out of bed to the most delicious smell ever, bacon. I could hear Storm purring in my head and I grinned, I rolled out of and threw on my robe and padded down to the kitchen. Braiden was standing over the stove and he handed me a cup of coffee "breakfast will be in 10" his said planting a kiss on my temple. Braiden took his roll as my guard and protector seriously, he was my big brother and followed me wherever I went, he was a huge part of my success in slowly righting the evil that was in the world. When I had first met him, I had been 10, though I had been with his parents for 5 years, he had been living with his aunt and uncle at a pack in England, to train, he was 10 years older than I was, and when he first arrived back at home, Storm had pranced around restlessly in my head, when I inquired as to her excitement, she explained that the Moon Goddess had granted me an protector until I found my mate, until that time, he would remain mateless, after that he would find his mate, when I pouted at the thought of him leaving me, Storm chuckled and said told me he'd never leave me, his mate would be apart of my new pack. "You're the best" I said to Braiden, he chuckled, knowing food and coffee were the way to my heart. "I know. Mom and dad called this morning..." I sipped my coffee and raised my eyebrow above the mug, "Fergus challenged his Alpha last night.... And lost... They wanted me to tell you that the Alpha is on the hunt for his newest beta." I nodded, "Shame. Let's just hope he's better than Fergus" Braiden chuckled. Storm preened in my head, "It's time to move on to the next town". She linked to me and Braiden, I nodded. "The Council has informed me that there's a small pack three States over, it's rumored that the Alpha abuses his pack, his Omega's especially. He'll beat them and abuse them, he has a mate, but he's not faithful to her, especially after he lost his heirs. Apparently she was pregnant but he was mad about something and ended up beating her so bad that she lost the pup and became infertile." I let out a low growl, the Council was a group of Werewolves and a few Witches that kept tabs on all the packs. The council was designed to protect pack members from those who tried to abuse their power, but they were a small group that often struggled to look over all the packs, as they didn't just operate in the United States but all over the world. Braiden's parents Marcus and Miranda had joined the council shortly after they had taken me in and adopted me, when they were first interested there were a few members of the council that were dirty, but with the help of myself and Storm we were able to weed out those who wished to use the council for their own gain. Since then, they would gather information from pack members and they would put together a list of packs that required immediate intervention, once there I was then required to become a member and make sure all of the rumors and accounts were true. It was surprising at how many people would make false allegations against their leaders, just because they wanted more power, those members were just as evil as those who caused physical harm to others. "I'll be glad to get away from my skeezeball boss" I said, "but I'm sad I didn't get to take him down first." Braiden nodded. We finished breakfast and cleaned up, we packed up our belongings and got ready to hit the road, we often stayed at short term rentals that were already furnished, so we didn't have much, and it took us no time at all to leave. As we were getting into the truck, Braiden looked over at me and smiled. I raised a questioning eyebrow at him, "Yes?" I asked, "Nothing, I just like this version of you best Kesley." I smiled, "I like this look on you the best too," I responded to him. When we got to new towns I used a shimmer on us that changed our appearances to keep us safe, we took new identities so we couldn't be tracked. I only used my natural look around my adoptive parents and Braiden, and on travel days. I put on my sunglasses and turned the volume up on the radio as Braiden started the truck. It took us four days of traveling before we arrived at the small town on the outskirts of the Bloodstone pack, we had secured a little house, and had worked out our backstory. I was a rogue after my pack had made me an outcast for not having a wolf, I would apply for a job as an Omega to make sure the Intel was good. Braiden was going to do Intel with other pack members, and when we got the information we needed I would strike.
