Chapter 7 - Recovery

“It’s ok little one it’s me. You kept tossing and turning in your sleep pulling out the IV. Mom was worried so she asked me to lay with you to keep you from moving while she made you food.” Theo said with an exhausted voice.

I carefully turned around and snuggled into Theo’s chest. “I’m sorry if I worried you.”

“Worried me, hell Annalena you died twice mom had to keep bring you back. You didn’t worry me you terrified us.” He said as he nuzzled my hair. “I love you little one I don’t know what I would do with out you. You’re my family. Let me go get you food.” He tried to get out of bed, but I wouldn’t let him go. I felt safe in his arms and didn’t want that feeling to be gone.

“I’ll be right back okay. You have been out for two days, and we need to get some food in your body so you can get some strength back before the pain meds run out.” I tilted my head to the side so he would explain further.

“You’re not feeling any pain right now because mom has been giving you pain medication she stole but we are almost out so you will feel the full pain from the whipping soon.”

“Whipping?” I don’t remember any whipping.

“I blocked the memory from you while we were in the cell and handled all the pain for as long as a could because you were losing your mind and on the verge of losing control. I had to regain my strength too, so I left the healing to Landi and Theo. We should be strong enough soon.” Zen explained.

Theo gently shook me back to reality and asked with a very concerned look “Wait, you don’t remember? You were whipped 20 times, your back looks like it went through a meat grinder.” He said with a wince.

“I remember it just took me a second I just woke up, you know?” I said to Theo, trying to hide the fact that I have my wolf and she is the reason I didn’t remember at first.

“Okay, I am going to go get you food so you can eat and rest some more.” Theo went to the kitchen to get some food.

“Zen, can we tell Theo and Landi about you?”

“Not yet Ann.”

Theo returned to the room with a steaming bowl of something that smelt amazing. I tried to sit up but winced as pain shot through my body.

“Just stay still. I will help you.” Theo said as he set the bowl down on the nightstand and helped me sit up.

“By the way where am I?”

“My room, I didn’t want you on the same floor as him. Now eat this so you can rest before the pain kicks in.”

I ate the entire bowl and felt a lot better but was extremely exhausted and drifted back to sleep with Theo right next to me. I asked him to stay because it kept the nightmares away.

I woke up throughout the night to Landi and Theo changing the bandages on my back. When the pain meds finally wore off, I was in more pain than I have ever been in my life and begged Landi and Theo to make it stop.

Landi decided to give me sleeping medication to knock me out and man was I grateful she had some on hand because I don’t know how much longer I could handle the pain.

I woke up a couple more times over the next few days and was relieved to see either Theo or Landi in the room with me.

On the fifth day of my recovery Landi decided it was time for me to get out of bed and shower to hopefully regain my strength because I have to go back to cleaning the pack house in two days.

I got out of bed with Theo on one side and Landi on the other. Each move made the wounds on my back reopen. I tried my best to not show how much pain I was in, but it became to much and I let out a soft whimper.

“Leni we can wait another day” Theo said as he tried to lead me back to bed.

“No Theo I have to do this I only have a few days left before I have to work. Landi, will you wait in the bathroom with me incase I need help?”

“I am going to make a paste for your back to help it heal faster. Theodore, please help Ann with anything she needs and come get me if something goes wrong.” With that Landi left the room and went to the kitchen.

“I promise I will only help if you need me to. I know mom is just worried if you need to be picked up, she won’t be able to help you.” Theo said as he led me to the bathroom.

“It’s okay Theo I just want to get clean. I trust you I just thought you would be uncomfortable” I started the shower and allowed Theo to help me get undressed. He was very polite the whole time and didn’t look at my naked body once.

I stepped into the shower and let the warm water run down my back. It hurt like hell but it also felt nice getting all the blood off me. I tried getting the rest of the dried blood off my body, but I kept hitting all the open gashes on my back. I swallowed my pride and asked Theo for help.

I faced the wall to keep the front of my body hidden as Theo took a rag and washed the blood off my back. I heard him sigh a couple times as he was carefully working around my wounds. I finally decided to ask the question on my mind since I first woke up.

“Theo was it you that gave me a shower when I was brought back from the dungeon? How bad is it?”

“Yes, I was and its looking better. You are lucky to be alive.” He said in a low voice. He continued to wash my back and then he used another rag to wash my wounds. He remained silent the whole time and I knew something was wrong, but he would tell me when he was ready, so I didn’t push him for answers.
