It has been another day or two in this horrible place with nothing but my thoughts and hunger to keep me company. Landi and Theo were able to sneak me more food and water, but they couldn’t stay long because the Alpha was watching them closely. All the days have blurred into one and I can’t figure out how much time is left but I hope I’m released soon because my whole body is becoming numb/
I must be going crazy from the isolation because I started to talk to the rat, Fred, yes, I named him. I swear he understands me because he just lays on my lap and squeaks occasionally giving me courage to not give up.
When I thought I was at my breaking point I heard the door open to the dungeon and heavy footsteps coming down the stairs. I didn’t even bother to lift my head because I was too weak and defeated.
The door to my cell opened and rough hands yanked me up. “Well, well, well, looks like you have learned your lesson. Are you ready to listen to your Alpha or do you need more time to think it over?” Asher said with a smirk.
It was hard to respond because Zena was growling in my head. She has never acted like this in front of Asher. I had to yell at her to stop, so I could talk without growling. “Yes Alpha.” I managed to get out in a weak voice before I collapsed to the floor again.
“f**k!” Asher cursed as he picked me up bridal style and left the dungeon. I could tell that we were heading to Landi and Theo’s apartment, but I was slipping in and out of consciousness. I was fighting to stay awake when we entered Landi’s room, and I was set into warm strong arms, Theo.
“Clean this nasty thing up and get her health again!” Asher barked at Landi. I could feel Theo tense around me, and I whimpered, making him tighten his hold on me.
“Yes Alpha. It might take a week or two to get her back on her feet.” Landi said in a calm voice.
“You have one week!” With that, Asher stormed out of the room and slammed the door.
“Lenie, honey, stay with me. We need to get you clean and mom’s not strong enough. I need your permission to wash you.” Theo said in a soothing voice as he walked to the bathroom. I could only manage to nod my head in response as I curled in closer to him.
I could hear Landi moving stuff around in the kitchen as she barked orders to Theo. “Get her in the shower, not a bath. It will make the infection worse.” Infection? What was she talking about, but I was too weak to ask. “I have a set of clean clothes in the bathroom for her.” I know she was still talking, but I was having a hard time focusing on anything. It feels like I was run over by a train.
I remember gentle hands undressing me and warm water running down my body. Someone strong was in the shower with me holding me up and gently washing all the grim and grit from the past two weeks off. I was fading away when they started to wash my hair.
“It’s okay little one, I have you. You can rest now.” That was when the world went black.
I woke up in the same meadow with beautiful flowers surrounded by trees and bushes. This time though I was able to walk to the beautiful woman and two wolves.
“Am I dead?”
“No, my sweet child, but close. I am Selene and I brought you here to talk.” Selene walked towards me and took a seat next to me and motioned for me to join her.
I sat next to her, and both wolves came and laid down next to me and put their big heads in my lap. Normally I would be terrified, but I felt at ease with both the wolves.
“That is Zena your wolf.” Selene said as she nodded towards the beautiful white wolf who licked my face. I chuckled and scratched her ears. The black wolf whimpered also looking for my affection.
I chuckled and scratched his ears too. “And who are you?”
“That is your destined mate’s wolf.” Selene said.
We were sitting in silence as I was scratching both the wolves’ ears trying to process what Selene told me and trying to think why the name Selene was so familiar when I knew I hadn’t met her when a realization hit me.
“You’re the Moon Goddess!” I blurted out before I could stop myself.
Selene chuckled at my response. “Yes, my child.”
“But why are you meeting me?”
“Because my child you are destined to do great things and help my children that have lost their way.”
“But why me.”
“Because you my child are a descendant of Rose one of my children that I have failed. Have you heard of the tale of Joseph and his daughter Rose who as gifted by the Gods?”
“Yes, my mom told me the tale when I was young. She went to the darkness when her father was murdered, and she wanted revenge.”
“That is part of the story, yes. Let me tell you why Rose went into the darkness. When I blessed Rose and warned her father that Rose can be pulled to the darkness Joseph taught Rose that she has to always be forgiving and never show anger even when the person she is facing is a monster. When Joseph was murdered Rose didn’t know what to do and was hiding her anger for so long that she lost control over it.” Selene sighed and I saw a hint of guilt in her eyes.
“It is my fault I was so worried Rose would use her powers wrong that I didn’t explain how they can be used for good even in ways that seem evil. See when Joseph was murdered Rose lost control of her anger and went on killing anyone that got in her way in finding the person responsible. She was so overwhelmed with grief that she didn’t care how many innocent lives she took as long as she found and killed the person who killed her father. But once she found and killed the person responsible it was to late Rose was lost to the darkness already.
These powers are given to protect the innocent by any means necessary but when they are used to take the life of the people, they are supposed to protect the darkness will take over and one will lose their soul to it. Does that make sense Annalena?”
I nodded my head in understanding.
“But, when these powers are used to end evil, it will bring light to the whole kingdom.”
“I understand but why are you telling me this?”
“Because my child you have been blessed by the Gods and have powers of your own and it is your destiny to stop Rose’s darkness and set her free to join me here in the afterlife.”
“But why me? I can’t even protect myself against the Black Meadow Pack, why can’t you stop Rose and save the werewolf race?”
“I am only allowed to be on earth for a short amount of time and can’t stop my children from making the choices they make, good or bad, which is why I granted you with the power to save our kind. You will have Zena here to help you every step of the way, trust her she is a very smart wolf. You will also have a guardian whose destiny is to be by your side until the end. Your mate will stand by your side through it all and be your greatest source of strength.”
“What if I don’t want a mate?” The black wolf whimpered in my lap at my words. “I know big boy, but I haven’t been in the best situation lately and it is very hard for me to trust anyone.”
“Just remember what your father always said ‘don’t judge all by the actions of one’ when the time comes listen to Zena, she will help you find the right path. The path in front of you is a long hard one but you are very strong, Annalena and I know you will help better the world for all. It is time for us to say goodbye now.”
“But wait, I have so many more questions.”
“I know my child; time will answer all. We will meet again but for now you need to return.” I was pulled from the meadow and woke in a bed I didn’t recognize. I started to panic when I felt arms wrap around me.
