THE COLLISION OF EGO

Chapter 10: The Collision of Egos Section 1: The Fury of the Han Patriarch The photos of the Parisian rescue hit Seoul like a stock market crash. Han Seo-Joon (the Father) was in his study at the Han Mansion, the heavy scent of fine leather and old money filling the air, when his wife, Lee Min-Hwa, placed the magazine on his desk. The cover was a grainy, explosive image: Kwon Ji-Hoon, the CEO of the rival empire, shielding and carrying a traumatized Han Yoo-Jin. Seo-Joon, dressed impeccably even in private, stared at the photo. His face, usually a mask of aristocratic control, slowly twisted into an expression of absolute betrayal. His initial, predictable reaction was furious denial. "The audacity!" he roared, slamming his fist onto the mahogany desk. "That Kwon brat orchestrated this entire event! He created a scandal involving a model just to make a public statement of defiance! It is an act of war!" "Seo-Joon," Min-Hwa said quietly, her voice laced with weary truth. "Look at the man's face. That is not spite. That is fear and devotion. And look closer at her neck." Seo-Joon picked up the magazine again, his hand shaking. He finally saw the flash of the sapphire ring on a chain, resting beside the familiar, pale green jade pendant. The jade he had forgotten about, the ring he never knew existed. "Fifteen years," he whispered, the realization sucking the air from the room. "Fifteen years, that arrogant child has been stealing my daughter. He watched her grow up and waited. He used his company to protect her and never asked for anything. He stole my treasure with silent patience." His rage wasn't a sudden burst; it was a cold, deep fury of an ego bruised beyond repair. The thought that his rival's son was the superior protector, the better man, was unbearable. He grabbed the nearest phone. "Get me Kwon Hyuk-Jin. Now! This is not an acquisition, this is abduction!" Section 2: The Triumph of the Kwon Patriarch Meanwhile, at the Kwon home, the scene was one of bewildering celebration. Kwon Hyuk-Jin (the Father), a man who lived to win, was pacing his ultra-modern living room, a wide, utterly smug smile plastered across his face. "He won, Min-Seok! He won the feud!" Hyuk-Jin bellowed, throwing a satisfied glance at his younger son. Kwon Min-Seok (the Brother) was struggling to contain his laughter, leaning against the fireplace. "He didn't just win, Father. He played the long game. He fell in love with her when she was three." Hyuk-Jin ignored him, grabbing his wife, Choi Eun-Kyung, and twirling her awkwardly. "I always knew my Ji-Hoon was brilliant, but this? This is genius! He didn't just beat Han Seo-Joon at shipping, he captured the Han Group's single most valuable asset!" When the emergency call from the Han Group came through, Hyuk-Jin took it on speaker, his voice dripping with theatrical superiority. "Seo-Joon, you sound upset," Hyuk-Jin said, barely concealing his glee. "Did you lose a merger? Ah, no, my boy simply had to rescue your daughter from your family's lackluster security! My deepest apologies that my son's devotion is more efficient than your entire security budget." "You orchestrating snake!" Seo-Joon's voice crackled across the line, heavy with pure venom. "You raised your son to be a thief! You will not touch her! I will ruin your company!" Hyuk-Jin laughed, a loud, triumphant roar that echoed through his sterile office. "Ruin him? He captured your princess right out of your tower! This isn't a kidnapping, Seo-Joon. This is a hostile corporate merger! The Han Group is now tied to the Kwons by a bond fifteen years in the making. You lost, old friend. And your little princess is now a Kwon bride!" The call ended in a chaotic, satisfying slam from the Han side. Kwon Hyuk-Jin sat back down, wiping a tear of triumph from his eye. The war had begun, and he had already claimed the victory trophy. Section 3: The Quiet Agreement While the fathers fought the war of egos, the real protectors were busy ensuring the safety of the woman at the center of the storm. Han Jun-Woo, defeated but determined, placed a highly encrypted call to Kwon Ji-Hoon in Paris. "She is home safe in the Milan penthouse, Ji-Hoon," Jun-Woo said, his voice flat with forced control. "Don't come back to Seoul. Father has already contacted his lawyers. He's trying to file a restraining order and use corporate law to seize your European assets." "I expected nothing less," Ji-Hoon replied, his voice calm and steady, despite the exhaustion. He was sitting beside Yoo-Jin, who was finally sleeping soundly, clutching his hand. "Tell me one thing, Jun-Woo. Are you calling me as the Han heir, or as her brother?" Jun-Woo paused, looking out at the city lights. He saw his sister's terrified face in his mind, the fear Ji-Hoon had instantly calmed. "As her brother," Jun-Woo confessed, the admission tasting like ash. "But I will kill you if you hurt her. Don't lie to me again. Tell me your plan, Kwon. We have to coordinate this war."
