System and Visitation

“Gughh…”  Ernest gasped, his body jerked upward, and looked around. A scene of a floor littered with flesh and blood was not there to be seen.  “A dream?”  No, it was too vivid to be a dream. As soon as he regained consciousness, his memory from the past surfaced. During the dungeon raid, in the last stage, a double dungeon occurred. A mysterious dark knight swept everyone swiftly, killing them in an instant. But when it was his turn, he heard a voice not familiar to him before he passed out. Then that’s it. He carefully looked around to determine if this is real or not. First his surroundings. The smell of alcohol and medicinal herbs wafted over the table by his bed. He is currently in the hospital. Second, to check if he was alive, he touched his body, and surprisingly, he could feel it. Now that all of it was checked out, he returned his body to a lying position, resting it, relieved that he was alive.  When he was about to close his eyes to sleep, a voice similar to the ones before he passed out sounded followed by mysterious floating images.  [Host Identification: Ernest Teucher, Level 1, Points to be allocated 100 points, Skill: N/A.] ‘What’s with those floating images? No, what is that?’ Ernest stared blankly at the mysterious images floating around him. Then he decided to touch it but it just went through. ‘An illusion?’  [No need to be wary, those images floating around are just visuals so that you can see it clearly.]  Ernest raised his upper body.  “Okay, It seems like I heard your voice before. It was the time where I would get myself killed. What happened after that?” [Utilizing the skills of the system, the enemy that killed your teammate…]  “They are not my teammates.” Ernest corrected, “Please continue.”  [By utilizing the skills of the system you defeated the enemy called “Shadow Knight”]  “What? Are you kidding? Did you just say that I defeated the thing that killed those jerks?”  [Yes.]  “Ah. Well, please continue. Starting from what is the system?”  [System is a tool that will make you stronger in the future. But for now, you’re your current self, weak and feeble. Unless you allocated those available points in your attributes stats.”  “You don’t need to say weak and feeble you know?”  [I’m sorry,]  “Now, I’m quite interested in ‘attributes’ stats? What is that?”  A new image prompted in front of Ernest.   [This is the attributes stats, this is where you can allocate the points you accumulated from leveling up. You have 100 unused points. You can allocate those points to five categories: Strength, Agility, Intellect, Vitality, and Dexterity. Now please tap the “plus” icon by the categories to add points in that area.] Ernest stroked his chin. With those words, he contemplated. Those five attributes are known to him. Strength just means strength, agility means quicker movement, intellect means more mana, vitality means more health, and dexterity is just the same with agility but more in hands.  With that, Ernest decided. He allocated 20 points to all areas. Since he doesn’t know what are the effects of increasing those stats, he chose the safe way.  After that, the system spoke.  [Now that you have allocated the points, it’s time for you to show some of the perks of having a system.] “Okay…” [First, there is a shop system tab where you can use gold to buy weapons, armors, potions, et cetera. Secondly, there is a quest tab where you’ll receive along in your journey. The third is the skill tab, for now, you don’t have a skill since you’re starting out. And lastly inventory, there you can store items and stuff.]  “I see, quite interesting.” Ernest smiled.  [In the quest tab, there is a daily quest called “To be the strongest” There you’ll need to complete it every day or else you’ll receive punishment.] “Punishment?” Ernest paled, “What sort of punishment.”  [Hmm...you don’t want to know.] “That severe?” Ernest gulped, “Then I should complete that daily quest at once? So what is the quest?”  Ernest's mind was filled with ideas on what quest would that be. As an adventurer, the quest has been etched in his brain, so whenever he hears one, he’ll get excited. [It’s an exercise test. Judging from your current health, I believe that you can finish it. You need to perform 100 squats, 100 push-ups, and 100 squats.]  Hearing the numbers, Ernest paled again. “100? Well, I can do those exercises but not today.”  [So you chose to get punished? I warned you, you won’t like it. Besides, there are still 12 hours for you to complete it. No rush…] “Okay okay! No need to remind me, I can do it.” Ernest got scared from that mysterious punishment. He stood up and performed the quest. One hour and thirty minutes later. Ernest finished it. His clothes were drenched in sweat. His breathing got ragged from arduous activity. [Congratulations! You finished your daily quest today. You received 10 points and status recovery.]  Hearing the word status recovery, the muscles pains, and tiredness was gone in an instant.  [Now that you have 10 unused points, it’s better to allocate it immediately.]  “Okay.”  Ernest returned to his bed as he prompted a screen of attributes stats. He added ten points on strength since strength is the one that arouses him.  “I’m going to rest now...please don’t disturb me while I’m sleeping. Okay?”  [About that...there are two signatures coming towards your location. Based on my gait analysis, they are men who mean business.]  “Huh?”  The door opened, two figures wearing a black suit entered his room. Just like the system said, they looked like they meant business. Arriving at his bed, Ernest asked, “Who are you?”  “We’re from the Red Dragons,” A man showed his badges, they were really from Red Dragons! One of the most powerful guilds in the kingdom.  “What do you want from me?”  “Well, let’s start about that experience of yours during the double dungeon.”  “If you would tell me your name, I will tell you the story.” “Oh pardon...where are my manners? My name is Talon and this associate of mine is Tarone. We were sent here by the Red Dragon Association to investigate the double dungeon that occurred during your raid.”  At that moment, all the memories of the double dungeon surfaced in Ernest’s mind.   Ernest told everything from the start. The Red Dragon associates keenly listened to his story. “And that’s it…” Talon nodded as Tarone grabbed a chair for them to sit. After analyzing his story, Talon began coming up with questions. “We want to know exactly, this black figure you’re talking to kill your members.”  Ernest made some alterations to his story, since he doesn’t know what type of monster that black figure was, he just named it black figure.  “I just sensed it.” “You sensed it?” Talon narrowed his eyes.  Ernest sighed, it seems like they need a detailed explanation.  “Yes, I just felt it from my body that we’re going to get attacked by something, but I don’t know what exactly. His movement is fluid and nimble and too fast for me to see. No, everyone. Just as I turned their heads were completely chopped off. When it’s my turn to die...I managed to block his strikes but it was futile...he was so strong that I was sent flying down into the ground. Then...it speaks.” This time, after hearing his last words, the two associates who have serious expressions turned pale.  “What did he say? Did he tell you anything that might help our investigation?” Talon leaned forward and grabbed him by the shoulder.  ‘Wait? Is that serious?’ Ernest thought.  The system prompted. [Why don’t you tell them the name of the monster you were dealing with. I have information about its]’s identity.] ‘How? He didn’t even introduce himself. [His name is Shadow Knight.]  …  With the red dragon associates’ eyes filled with anticipation, Ernest answered their queries.  “So he goes by the name Shadow Knight…” Just before he could continue his story, one of them suddenly exclaimed.  “SHADOW KNIGHT!!!” Tarone gasped. “Shadow knight...that name rings a bell,” Talon muttered. “Isn’t it from the handbook of monster bosses? It resides in S-Class dungeons and even one or two S-Class adventurers might have problems dealing with it.” Talon faced Ernest. “Are you really telling the truth? The Shadow Knight appeared in your dungeon raid?”  Ernest nodded as Talon looked at him in the eyes, seeing that, Talon sighed.  “If the Shadow Knight is the one who appeared in your raid, then all of you getting killed is understandable. After all, that monster is very powerful…So, the only question is how did it disappear.” “Pardon?” Ernest got lost in his question. “I mean, where is the Shadow Knight? It’s impossible to even for a hundred D-rank adventurers to defeat one Shadow Knight. So where is it?”  “Why are you asking me that? I just told you, I passed out.”  “But how did you know its name? We sent investigators to the dungeon the moment we saw the warning from Adventurer’s Association Guild. But they haven’t seen a Shadow Knight there.” ‘This is getting out of hand. Why does it feel like I’m getting interrogated?’ I can’t just tell him that a mysterious system told me his name.’ [Do you want to see the replay of your fights? I have it on my records.]  ‘Wait? Did you just say that I fought with it?”  [Showing you the video footage...executed.]  Video footage appeared in front of him. It seems like he’s the only one seeing it as the red dragon associates didn’t see it floating in the air. There, he witnessed himself fighting the Shadow Knight with ease. ‘What…’ He was in disbelief, the person in the video is him but it was not him. He can’t explain what’s going on but at the end of the video, he was the one left standing. ‘That was supposed to be S-Class but how come I defeated it? No, I don’t even remember fighting it.’  “Look me in the eye,” Talon said, snapping Ernest back to reality. “I can identify whether a person is lying or not. Let’s say it’s one of my abilities. Let’s confirm again what happened to the Shadow Knight.”  “I killed it…”  Ernest blurted out those words inadvertently. Talon who heard those words had his eyes wide open. “You killed it…” Looking him in the eye, there’s no indication that he was lying. How come the lowest of the lowest killed an S-Class boss?  Talon slowly turned his head and glanced at Tarone who was also in disbelief. Then they exchanged a meaningful look.  “Contact headquarters, we might have a reawakened in our hands,” Talon ordered. “Yes...I’ll get the orb right away.”  Tarone disappeared from the mist. Leaving Talon with Ernest. They are not acting like they are right now. Most importantly, Ernest heard the word reawakened. He knew that term.  It was the term used where a person undergoes a second awakening. When that happens, the overall strength of a person will dramatically increase. Let’s say a D-rank adventurer awakened, then he could become an S-Class in an instant.  But the chances of it happening is one-in-a-billion. Making them rare. But if one does awaken, any guild or country will do everything in their power to keep them. After all, one awakened can upset the balance of power. “Hey, Ernest...do you want to join the Red Dragon?”  “Huh?”  Tarone appeared. “I have brought the orb.” “Let’s test it right away!” “Ernest, please place your hands onto the orb.”  Ernest followed Tarone and placed his hands onto the orb. It glows. Then Talone, who has a device that can put the glow into numerical data looked at it.
