Chapter 5

1260 Words
Lucian– My blood boiled in anger when I caught sight of how bad her swollen cheek was but I didn't want to cause a scene. I told everyone the ball was cancelled rather than doing something drastic. The smell in my room was unmistaken, she must have spent the previous night there. I was at loss for words when I watched her fumble in my presence. I knew something was terribly wrong and I had to get to the bottom of it before we left. I led her to my room,my expression might have been calm but my mind was racing. I was going mad with frustration and I couldn't calm my emotions. I went to the balcony to smoke, trying to keep my emotions in check so as not to scare her off. Her stomach's growling made me realise she was hungry. I asked and she nodded her head as usual. I longed to know her name and hear her enchanting voice but it seemed I would have to be patient and wait for her to open up to me. I ordered the head maid to bring her some food. Unable to contain my curiosity any longer,I reached out to Nathan through our mind link. “Nate,I need you in my room.” Nathan arrived in my room a few minutes from then and I wasted no time in giving him my request. “I want you to get me every information about my mate, what she does, where she goes, every detail of her life,” I requested clearly. “Okay.” I turned my attention back to my beautiful but sorrowful mate. She looked so fragile as she quietly ate her meal. After 10 minutes,Nathan had gathered all the information I needed. “Man, I've got everything you asked for,” Nathan said through our mind link. “Brace yourself for what I'm about to tell you,” “Go ahead” I responded impatiently “She was abandoned and abused. Her life has been terrible, too terrible,” “You okay?” Nathan asked as soon as my line went cold. “I'm fine,”I replied through clenched teeth “Tell me more,” “Her name is Aria Williams,” Aria,it was such a beautiful name. “Continue, Nathan,I'm listening,” I commanded, eager to know more. Aria's story was a tragic one filled with heartbreak and suffering. Abandoned at the border of the hipack when she was just six she became an easy target for verbal and physical abuse from others. Despite not being an omega, she was delegated to working in the kitchen and forced to sleep in a tiny cramped room in the basement. Her only solace was a woman named Mrs Clara, her only friend in this cruel world. As I listened to this story I felt a s***h to my heart. My wolf,Ares, boiled in rage. My anger was physically visible as I clenched the glass I was holding so tightly that it shattered to pieces.I felt no pain from that, all my pain was channeled into something else. I remembered Aria was in the room, she was scared.Tears rolled down her pretty face as she tried avoiding my eyes. Without a word I left the room and those who saw me as I descended the stairs couldn't even look up to me. I made my way to the Alpha's office,my mind consumed in fury. How could he allow such atrocities befall an innocent girl that was abandoned by her family? I burst into the Alphas office,he knew why I was there. He began to stammer out silly flimsy excuses. I wasn't interested in listening to anything he had to say, I knew what I came for. I warned him not to even attempt running away. Sweat ran down his face as the gravity of the situation began to dawn on him. I closed the gap between us,my gaze fixed on his neck and with one swipe I tore it open. I watched him fall lifelessly to the ground. No one could harm what was rightfully mine and get away with it. “There’s some trash in the Alpha's office, come take care of it,” I sent a message across to Nathan through our mind link.“Also, invite Catherine over.” Aria had no friends but my sister Catherine could be of assistance. I transformed into my wolf form and leapt out of the open window, running into the woods. The fresh scent of nature enveloped me,bringing a semblance of calm amidst the turmoil within me. My mate had suffered for years without protection, and I was not done yet. Everyone involved in her torment would face their own punishment, one they would never forget. Nathan had tried to reach out to me but I had severed all ties, focused solely on my mission. I was scared Aria would reject me but even if she did,I would carry her forcefully to my pack. I had tan through the woods for hours and I knew I had to return and face the situation. I went to the place I usually kept clothes in the forest, shifted back to my human form and put them on. As I went back, everywhere was eerily quiet. The news of what happened must have spread and people were to disgusted by the actions of the Alpha to be sad about his death. I heard rumours of his sadistic tendencies and I believed them the most now. If I found out that he laid a finger on my mate I would back to life and torture him repeatedly. I sent Nathan a mind message “Has he been taken care of?” “Yes,but something is wrong,”he replied “The Luna is not in her room.” “What!” I wondered were she might have gone to,what if she ran away. “Where is she? I need to get to her,” I said urgently to Nathan. “She needs space Lucian, she needs to absorb everything that's going on. Don't rush her,” he said gently and I understood. “But where is she?” I still needed to know. “She's at the middle-aged lady's house, the one I told you about.” “Guard the house, make sure it's safe,” I instructed Nathan. I couldn't risk anything happening to her. “For sure,” he responded, understanding the importance of keeping Aria protected at all times. As I stood there,at the gate of the mansion,I couldn't help but reflect on the curse that had plagued me since I was twelve. A witch's curse, cast upon because I refused to give her water in the woods. My parents had warned me about rogues, but I had been unkind to her and she cursed me in return. The curse was simple, I would die if the black lines covered my heart completely and the only way to break the curse was to find true love from my mate, because I had been wicked to the witch. My parents had searched far and wide but the witch vanished without a trace. We had travelled to countless places but the curse remained unbroken. I had grown cold and distant, earning the title of the ‘Heartless Alpha King’. Now half of my chest was already covered in black lines and the witch had warned that once my whole chest was covered I would die. I had never cared about finding my mate until now. If Aria didn't develop true love for me then it would be the end of me.
