“A famous special guest? Who could that be?”
Our classmates were intrigued by this and began to guess among themselves.
“It must be a random pub singer. Who else could it be? It’s always some random small-time guy whenever someone says ‘famous special guest’.”
“I think so too. Our class fund isn’t that high either. You think we’d be able to get Roman White here to sing?”
“You’ve guessed right, Finn Summers. Our special guest is indeed Roman White.” Nadia smiled happily at the lectern.
“Roman White?”
The class went silent when Nadia announced this.
The next second, the entire class broke out in laughter, except for me.
“Nadia, is this you trying to make us forget our fatigue from all the studying by making us laugh?”
“Nadia, do we have tens of millions in our class fund? Do you have any idea what it would cost for Roman White to sing for us?”
“I’m a fan of Roman White’s, and I know this very well. One concert from him costs over ten million. It’s nice that you still have a sense of humor at a time like this, Nadia, but Roman White isn’t someone we would ever dare to invite.”
Everyone was talking about this. They all were of the same opinion that Nadia was joking.
Nadia did not bother to explain as she stood at the lectern. All she did was smile and walk off the lectern, letting our classmates continue discussing this amongst themselves.
However, I knew that Nadia was telling the truth about everything.
Because I was the one responsible for inviting Roman!
I secretly anticipated the moment Roman would appear on the school stage and how shocked everyone would look when they saw him.
…
After the end of this short episode, I gathered my thoughts up and continued immersing myself in this stressful revision.
Chris gently elbowed me around three in the afternoon. “Freddie, has your girlfriend gone crazy from chasing after her idol?”
“My girlfriend?”
“I’m talking about Nadia. She told the class this morning that Roman White would be singing for us, and in the afternoon, she informed the Entrepreneur Society about holding their annual meeting and inviting Roman White here. She’s now the laughing stock of the whole school.”
“Huh? How did you know?”
“I found out from the school’s forum, of course. All the teachers and students have been talking about it.”
“Let me have a look.” I snatched Chris’ phone at that point.
I glanced through the forum’s contents.
It was the members of the Entrepreneur Society posting Nadia’s private notice on a public forum that had caused such a huge commotion.
Now the teachers and students of the school were laughing at Nadia, thinking that she had gone crazy from worshipping her idol.
As for Young Master Zane, who was not on good terms with Nadia, he had put up a special post making fun of her, even going to the extent of promising to livestream himself eating s**t if Roman White did come to the school.
There were many opinions on the forum. Some were sitting back to watch the drama unfold while others were looking forward to when Roman arrived. However, most of them were expressing doubt about it. They felt that it was impossible for Roman to hold a concert at our school.
Some of them had even taken the time to visit Roman’s official website to get his schedule to disprove the news.
This had gotten quite out of hand when it went online.
At this point, I had no idea whether to laugh or cry.
Nadia was someone who could not keep a secret. I had just told her about the concert, and she ended up informing the entire school about it.
It was lucky that this news was real. Otherwise, how was she going to handle things if Roman did not show up?
“Are you done reading the forums, Freddie?” Chris snatched his phone back from my hand. He chuckled and said, “I think it’s best you keep your girlfriend under control. Otherwise, she might end up embarrassing herself.”
“Why should I keep her under control? What if Roman White really is coming?” I asked Chris.
“How would that be possible?” he replied in disbelief.
“Haha, anything is possible with me around. Have you forgotten that I’m the miracle man?”
After that, I ignored Chris and continued to focus on my revision.
…
We spent the entire day on exams the next day.
When I was done with my afternoon exam, I realized that the school had many colored flags up. There were even banners on both sides of the road leading into the school.
Some words were printed on the banner.
“A big welcome to Mr. Roman White to our school!”
“The Entrepreneur Society wishes Mr. Roman White a successful concert!”
The students who came out of the exam hall with me were stunned by the banners in front of them. They began talking amongst themselves. “Oh my God, could Roman White really be coming to our school?”
“Who knows? But it does look like it’s true by the looks of this!”
“I’ve just heard someone talking about a stage being set up on the school field.”
“Is that for real? If Roman White really is coming, that would be so amazing for the school!”
“Come on, let’s go take a look and find out if it’s true.”
…
It was seven-thirty at night when our classmates took their seats below the stage as organized by Nadia.
There were five to a table, and there were five tables with the best view of the stage.
The Entrepreneur Society had dozens of tables next to us, but their spots were not as good as ours.
Plenty of snacks and fruits had been arranged on our table.
However, our classmates were more interested in the concert tonight than the food. They were waving their arms about in excitement.
Even though Chris was not really a fan of Roman, he was also excited as he said to me, “Freddie, could Roman White really be coming?”
“Don’t ask me any questions. Just see for yourself and you’ll find out,” I replied mysteriously.
“I’d better get my girlfriend here too.” Chris knew me well enough to know what that meant, and he decided to call his girlfriend here.
It was seven-forty when the lights on the stage lit up.
I got up to take a look around and saw that many students were gathered below the stage.
They were probably here to see what was going to happen.
They wanted to bear witness to the identity of the person who was about to perform in school tonight.
…
The concert officially began at eight at night.
When the lights dimmed on stage, there was complete silence at the venue. Everyone held their breaths as they stared at the stage with excited anticipation. They wanted to find out who exactly was the special guest tonight.
I could even hear Chris and his girlfriend’s hearts beating with anticipation.
The stage lights dimmed for about a minute before they shone brightly once more. The person who appeared along with the bright lights was, of course, the very handsome Roman White.
“Hi, everyone from Southside National University! How are you doing? I’m Roman White.”
There was a short silence after Roman introduced himself. In the next second, all of the girls at the concert erupted into crazy screams as they jumped about in a mad fashion.
I knew Roman was popular, but I never imagined he was that popular. Their screams made my ear buzz continuously.
“Next, I’d like to dedicate the song ‘Midnight Sun’ to everyone.”
The fans below began to sing along with him. There was a major sing-along for the first song, and that was enough to prove how popular Roman was with the girls from school.
When Roman finished his first song and began singing the second song, I realized there were more and more people gathering around me.
All the teachers and students from the school had come here like a swarm of bees around a flower.
Many of them had come running in this direction, afraid of losing out on a good spot.
They had come here so fast that I was convinced that even in the face of a zombie apocalypse they would not have been able to run this quickly.
By the time Roman was done with his fifth song, I was shocked to see that the stage below was filled to the brim with people. It felt like there was no end to the crowd.
I knew that Roman’s concert tonight was a success!
After this concert, Nadia would become a hero in the eyes of every girl in school. Her position in class and school would not be easily challenged.
A smile dawned on my lips. I took out my phone to post something in the school forum.
“Come on out, Young Master Zane. Roman White has appeared out of thin air! It’s time for you to live stream yourself eating s**t!”
I turned off my phone after posting that and continued enjoying Roman’s concert along with Nadia and the others.
I had to admit that even though Roman had a worrying amount of book smarts and emotional intelligence, he was equipped with outstanding attributes. He was handsome, and he sang very well.
This was especially true when he sang love songs with that gentle look on his face. If I was a girl, I would like him too.
This might have been what others described as ‘being blessed by the heavens’.
…
The concert ended at ten at night.
By the time the concert was over, Nadia had gone hoarse from screaming. I could tell she had had a very good time.
As long as she was happy, this concert was a success.
As the Entrepreneur Society was the main organizer, Nadia could not leave immediately. She had to stay back to clean things up.
It was already past eleven by the time she was done.
When I saw her finally done with work, I smiled at her and said, “The hostel has already closed its doors at this hour. You can only leave with me tonight.”
